Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone has been tested positive for the coronavirus, the club confirmed. Simeone got infected, but he is asymptomatic, so he gone into 14-day quarantine.

Simeone, along with the rest of Atletico's coaching staff, had undergone PCR tests on Friday, shortly after returning from training. One member of the team was positive on Thursday, after which they decided to stop the pre-season preparations and return to Madrid.

This is the third most recent case of a COVID-19 infection in the Colchoneros. The other two cases were striker Diego Costa and midfielder Santiago Arias.

The 2020-2021 La Liga started yesterday and continues today, but some of the matches have been postponed. According to the schedule, Atleti's first match is against Granada on September 27.

It remains to be seen if Simeone will lead his team on their first La Liga fixture. This is in fact, the third case of COVID-19 infection on a high-profile coach in soccer. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and ex-Barcelona star Xavi Hernandez have both previously beaten the disease.
