Atlético Madrid finally tasted La Liga glory again. Diego Simeone ‘s boys hadendured a wonderful campaign so far, and they wanted to finish it by claiming the long-awaited silverware . They werein a good spot, but Real Madrid wereright behind them waiting for a miracle in the season finale. However, the Atleti made it, and clinched their 11th La Liga title.

The Colchoneros hadheld onto the first seed for a long time, but some unexpected upsets hadgiven a dramatic final to the Spanish league’s last weeks. With Barcelona no longer in contention, the league decider tookpart exclusively betweenthe two big sides from the capital city.

In Matchday 38, Atletico came from behind to beat Real Valladolid2-1 with goals scored by Ángel Correaand Luis Suárez to secure the title. The Merenguesmanaged to beat Villarreal 2-1, but it was not enough to win the trophy.
