Pelé reacts to the death of Diego Maradona

The Brazilian soccer great took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the passing of Diego Maradona.

Pelé and Diego Maradona will be forever linked, for almost 40 years they have been the subject of “who is the greatest of all-time”. A debate that continues today, even with the emergence of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Even though Pelé and Maradona played in different eras, both were recognized as the best of all-time for different reasons. Their relationship was rocky, at times they confronted each other with regards to choices made off the field and Pelé’s relationship to FIFA.

Nonetheless, Pelé did appear in Diego Maradona’s variety show “La Noche del 10” in 2005 and shared a wonderful moment. With the news of Diego Maradona’s death, the three-time World Cup winner took to Twitter to say goodbye to the Argentine soccer great.

“What sad news. I lost a great friend and the world lost a legend. There is still much to be said, but for now, may God give strength to his family members. One day, I hope we can play soccer together in the sky.”Were the words Pelé used to describe Diego Maradona.

Diego Maradona passed away in his Buenos Aireshome of an apparent heart attack, the President of Argentina has declared three days of mourning in the country which Maradona led to a World Cup in 1986.
