Inter Miami superstar Lionel Messi scored a brace in Inter Miami’s 4-2 win over Montreal for the MLS regular season. Javier Mascherano’s team found a victory again after two draws and two losses in their last four matches. Luis Suarez also scored two goals tonight.
Messi scored the first goal of the night at the 27th minute mark. The Argentinian received a ball from Sergio Busquets just outside the box and sent the ball to the back of the net with one of his signature strikes.
Luis Suarez followed him with a fantastic goal. Messi entered the box, dribbled past the defenders, and found Suarez alone in the middle, who didn’t miss with a powerful strike.
The Uruguayan star extended the advantage with another goal that came from a quick play. Dante Sealy, of Montreal, found the net to give his team their first goal, but Messi once again appeared to sentence the win. Victor Loturi added another goal for the visitors.
Miami get out of their negative streak
The victory gives tranquility to Miami, which desperately needed a win to get out of a slump in the MLS. The Herons had only won two matches in their last ten, including big losses against Minnesota (4-1) and Orlando City (3-0).
Mascherano’s side has dropped to seventh in the MLS Eastern Conference League. Against Montreal, Miami is playing their first of the only two matches they have left before the start of the FIFA Club World Cup.
While the team has struggled, Messi has remained one of the most effective players of the team. He scored from a free-kick in the 3-3 draw against San Jose, and assisted the third goal to help his team retain a point. In total, the Argentinian has 12 goals in 19 appearances with Miami in 2025.

Jordi Alba left the match with injury
However, despite the goal, Miami struggled in the first half, especially as they lost two players with 20 minutes left. First, Toto Aviles had to replace Gonzalo Lugan, who appeared to sustain a left hamstring injury about 10 minutes into the match.
Then, Jordi Alba left the match after suffering an injury. While he limped off on his own, which could be a good sign, his absence is definitely tough for The Herons, especially as he is often a versatile player, helping in defense and offense.
