The Memphis Tigers know they can’t afford to lose their best scorer. PJ Haggerty’s sweepstakes have been the talk of the hour in college basketball, and for very good reasons.
Coach Penny Hardaway knows how vital Haggerty is for his aspirations, as he’s coming off dominating with 21.7 points per game. That’s also why so many other programs want him.
With that in mind, renowned NCAA analyst Gary Parrish admitted that he didn’t love Hardaway’s chances to retain Haggerty, as big-money players like NC State, Texas, and Ole Miss are also trying to get him.
Gary Parrish has bad news for Penny Hardaway
“So Penny Hardaway is in a fight with Will Wade and Shawn Miller,” Parrish said. “Two men who were previously fired from power conference jobs in part because their programs were allegedly spending big money on prospects even before it was allowed by NCAA rules. And then there’s Chris Beard, who has so much NIL to hand out at Ole Miss.”
At the end of the day, Haggerty will have a big decision to make, and it will most likely go down to more than just money. Then again, there are no guarantees at this point.
The NIL era and the transfer portal are here to stay, and the rules have changed forever. Those who refuse or fail to adapt to modern times will be left behind for good.
