You can’t talk about women’s basketball history without talking about Dawn Staley multiple times. The same applies to college basketball, and, to be fair, to American sports as a whole.

Staley is one of the greatest female coaches to ever walk the face of the Earth. Moreover, she also had an outstanding career as a perennial WNBA All-Star point guard.

However, she couldn’t have done any of the great things she accomplished without discipline. That’s why she wanted to send her late mother a loving message during Mother’s Day.

Dawn Staley sends emotional Mother’s Day message

“On this Mother’s Day. I know the true meaning of what a great mother and the example they set for all of us to be successful,” Staley wrote on social media. “My mother, bless her soul, who’s up in heaven, taught me discipline, taught me how to be a faithful woman.”

Head coach Dawn Staley of the South Carolina

It takes a strong woman to raise another strong woman, and Staley is tough as nails, not only on the basketball court but also in her relentless approach to coaching.

She’s led her team to three NCAA Championships and seven Final Four appearances, and the South Carolina Gamecocks will continue to be a contender for as long as she’s there.
