The NFL Combine is one of the biggest opportunities for draft prospects to showcase their athleticism and make a name for themselves beyond their college football success. Two Texas Longhorns talents may have gone too far, forecasting they would shatter Xavier Worthy’s 40-yard dash record—and the Kansas City Chiefs star didn’t let that slide. After his record remained intact, Worthy delivered a bold six-word message to Arch Manning’s former teammates.
Everything is bigger in Texas—including the confidence each Longhorn plays with. However, that confidence may have gotten the best of Jaydon Blue and Isaiah Bond, as they predicted greatness in their Combine performances, only to fall well short of history.
Both Blue and Bond boldly claimed they would claim the 40-yard dash title, held by Blue and Manning‘s former teammate Xavier Worthy, who clocked a record-breaking 4.21-second run during the 2024 NFL Combine. Head coach Steve Sarkisian made sure Worthy knew that some Longhorns were targeting his record, but in the end, they failed to back up their words
Blue and Bond posted times of 4.38 and 4.39 seconds, respectively—not bad by any means, but far from remarkable for players aiming to make history. The eyes of Texas were upon them, and so were Worthy’s, who dropped a bold message for the former NCAA stars.
“Respect those who come before you,” Xavier Worthy posted on an Instagram story featuring Blue and Bond’s 40-yard dash attempts.
Can’t teach speed
The former Longhorns, now Chiefs star has become widely acclaimed as the fastest player in the league. After breaking John Ross‘ record in the Combine, Worthy put on a sensational rookie campaign along Patrick Mahomes, showcasing his second-to-noe speed in multiple occasions.
While Tyreek Hill, a.k.a. ‘The Cheetah,’ is another top contender for that title in the NFL, the Combine in Indianapolis made one thing clear—no player in this draft class will challenge Worthy. “There’s fast then there’s me,” Worthy stated on his X account.
Dark horse
Ironically, it wasn’t Blue nor Bond who ran the best times in the 40-yard dash. Instead, fellow Longhorns Matthew Golden—who made no bold predictions—posted the fastest time of any prospect in the 2025 class, finishing the drill in just 4.30 seconds
