With the primary goal of becoming contenders for the World Series, the New York Yankees have managed to assemble a roster suited to the task. While Aaron Boone knows he has stars and high-caliber players, he also trusts his rotation players, such as Elmer Rodriguez.
The young pitcher could prove to be a key alternative for the rotation in the Bronx, especially after the words of his manager, who showed particular interest in his game and talent.
“Big fan,” Aaron Boone said recently, via Empire Sports Media. “Another guy that I think has a really, really bright future as a starting pitcher. I think he’s got a chance to be a really good starter.
“He can do a lot of things with the ball on the mound. He’s got a number of different pitches. He’s got a real good feel to pitch. When I watch him, I look at him and think, ‘That guy’s gonna be a starter in this league for a long time.’”
WBC as a proving ground for Rodriguez
Before joining Yankees Camp, Elmer Rodriguez represented Puerto Rico in preparation for the World Baseball Classic facing none other than the Boston Red Sox. Alex Cora, his former manager, took notice on this: “Regardless of what happens, this is going to make him a better player. We’re going to have to deal with him at one point during his career.”
Quality pitchers in the Bronx
As we head into the 2026 season, Aaron Boone faces a challenging start with his pitching staff due to significant injuries to his top arms. With Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon expected to be out until at least June and late April respectively, the Yankees’ rotation will be spearheaded by newcomer Max Fried, who has been officially named the Opening Day starter.
To round out the rotation, Boone will rely on a mix of young talent and versatility, including Luis Gil, Ryan Weathers, Will Warren, and Cam Schlittler. Additionally, the bullpen has been bolstered by the high-leverage tandem of David Bednar and Camilo Doval, while veterans Ryan Yarbrough and Paul Blackburn provide essential depth as “swingmen” who can transition between relief and spot-starting roles as needed.
