The New York Mets have high hopes for the upcoming 2025 season, especially with the addition of Juan Soto, who has already been informed of his role in the lineup. The team is aiming to build a dangerous offensive unit with him and other top players.

According to a report from Jon Heyman, the Mets have notified five players who will be part of their starting lineup next season. Among them is Juan Soto, though he won’t be batting leadoff—that spot will belong to Francisco Lindor. While the exact reasoning behind the decision remains unclear, it is the structure the team has chosen.

Lindor, now entering his fourth season with the Mets, posted solid numbers in 2024. He had 689 plate appearances, recording 107 runs, 169 hits, and 33 home runs. However, he also struck out 127 times, marking his third consecutive season with 120+ strikeouts (133 in 2022, 137 in 2023—his career high).

Soto, who will hit second in the order, has already shown strong form during spring training. In 2024 with the Yankees, he put up stellar numbers, playing in 157 games—his second-highest total in a season—and making 713 plate appearances. He also set a personal record with 128 runs scored, while adding 166 hits and 41 home runs.

Mets’ Projected Lineup for the 2025 Season

With Francisco Lindor and Juan Soto leading off, Pete Alonso is expected to bat third. Alonso was a key contributor last season, playing in all 162 games and delivering 88 RBIs, 34 home runs, and 695 plate appearances.

  • Francisco Lindor
  • Juan Soto
  • Pete Alonso
  • 4/5 Mark Vientos
  • 4/5 Brandon Nimmo

Heyman also reported that the Mets plan to use Vientos and Nimmo in a platoon system based on opposing pitchers. Vientos is expected to bat primarily against left-handed pitchers, while Nimmo will face right-handers, allowing the team to optimize matchups.

Juan Soto’s 2025 Projections with the Mets

According to Baseball Reference, Juan Soto is projected to have a stellar 2025 season with the Mets. He is expected to achieve a .273 batting average, a .404 on-base percentage, and a .516 slugging percentage, resulting in an impressive .920 OPS. Additionally, Soto is projected to hit 31 home runs and drive in 86 runs, showcasing his potential to be a key player for the Mets.
