The Arizona Diamondbacks are currently navigating a challenging regular season. Sporting a 50-53 record, the team is urgently seeking a turnaround to secure a spot in the postseason, trailing behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the AL West standings. Despite the presence of standout players such as Eugenio Suarez, the squad has struggled to find cohesion this season.
This scenario has generated significant speculation about Suarez’s future with the team. Reports suggest that Suarez is one of several players potentially on the move before the trade deadline. Recent developments hint at the possibility of a larger shake-up, with the organization considering additional trades involving other key players.
In an effort to salvage their season and make a push for the postseason, the Diamondbacks’ front office, as reported by Jon Heyman of the New York Post, is reportedly contemplating a major trade. This deal could include Suarez and three other prominent players.
“Diamondbacks, beset by bad luck this year, are nearly resigned to selling now. Eugenio Suarez, Josh Naylor, Merrill Kelly and Zac Gallen are all free agents, and talks will presumably start getting serious soon.“ Heyman shared on his X account regarding the potential trades.
Suarez’s potential new home
With the Diamondbacks entertaining trade proposals for Suarez, one team stands out as a potential destination: the Cincinnati Reds. Reports suggest that the Reds are leading the charge in negotiations to secure Suarez’s talents.
The Reds, currently in the midst of a challenging season, are eager to strengthen their roster for a possible postseason push. According to The Athletic’s Trent Rosecrans, there is already “mutual interest” between the Reds and Suarez, signaling a strong possibility of a deal.
“Sources within the league indicate mutual interest between the Reds and Diamondbacks in a deal that could bring Suarez back to Cincinnati,” Rosecrans reported, highlighting the potential reunion.
Mets reportedly withdraw from Suarez pursuit
Previously considered a contender for Suarez, the New York Mets have reportedly stepped back from negotiations. Mets owner Steve Cohen reportedly decided against pursuing Suarez, as the Diamondbacks’ asking price exceeded New York’s offer. This development positions the Reds more favorably, although the New York Yankees remain interested, according to Heyman.
