Francisco Lindor is not currently on Puerto Rico’s roster for the 2026 World Baseball Classic, but alternative paths have been explored to help him, and other players, obtain private insurance coverage in case of injury. Recently, it surfaced that Bad Bunny was involved in one of those attempts.
The report was shared on X by Master Flip (@masterflip_). “According to Carlos Baerga, the investor has been revealed as Bad Bunny. He had agreed to secure insurance for both Francisco Lindor and Carlos Correa, but the claims were denied due to a lack of proper approval from the relevant insurers and MLB teams.
No official figure has been released for how much money Bad Bunny may have offered to help Lindor and Correa resolve their insurance issues so they could play in the World Baseball Classic, but what is clear is that people like him don’t often step forward trying to help a professional baseball player.
The case of Miguel Cabrera in his last WBC appearance
Baerga reportedly talked about how the Detroit Tigers allowed Miguel Cabrera, then in the twilight of his MLB career, to play in the WBC even though his insurance situation was unresolved.
“Baerga cited the 2023 World Baseball Classic, when Miguel Cabrera was allowed to participate despite insurance issues. In Cabrera’s case, the Detroit Tigers permitted him to join Venezuela’s roster during his final MLB season and assumed the full financial risk of any potential injury,” Master Flip wrote on X.
It’s still unclear whether Lindor will be able to keep trying to secure another sponsor or backer, but there are still more than three weeks before the tournament begins, so there could be time to include him on the roster at the last minute, just as some analysts have suggested.
