LaMelo Ball is expected to be the fourth Ball member to make it to the NBA after his father LaVar and his brothers Lonzo and LiAngelo (G-League) have been around for some time now. The youngest member of the family is seen as a top prospect in the upcoming 2020 NBA draft, but that’s a projection that he could be losing after his recent interviews.
Melo dropped out of high school to go play overseas and try his luck against the pros. He played in Lithuania and Australia, showing very good things about his game and leaving a good impression ahead of this upcoming draft.
Well, it looks like all of that is getting ruined by LaMelo himself, who hasn’t impressed teams in job interviews. His talents and skills alone won’t be enough to earn the attention of NBA teams and that’s becoming more visible in recent days.
LaMelo Ball is not guaranteed a top pick after recent interviews
Ball is reportedly not doing well during his job interviews, hurting his chances of being drafted as a high pick. Players like Anthony Edwards, James Wiseman and Obi Toppin, among others, are believed to be considered among the top 5 picks of the draft.
Melo, though, might be losing that status if things don’t improve for him. Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer reported that Ball’s interviews and workouts aren’t impressing anybody, hurting his ‘projected top-5 pick’ status.
“Here is what I’m hearing from the league at large: LaMelo Ball is not performing very well at job interviews. I’ve heard that from multiple sources. He is not improving his perception via job interview.
“There are people drafting later in the top ten who were not preparing for the possibility of Ball still being around and, I’m not saying that he will be a top-three pick, I am saying that I know for a fact that there are teams later in the top ten who are doing more research on him because they no longer think it’s a given he will.”
The young player needs to step up if he wants to earn a good contract and land in a team that can give him the opportunities he needs to flourish in the league. He still has some things to improve but he’s young and has a bright future ahead. It’s up to him to pick what path to follow.
His father has claimed he doesn’t want the Golden State Warriors to pick his son with the No. 2 overall selection, but Melo doesn’t seem to hate that option. The Warriors are a team with huge potential, too, so landing in the Bay can be very good for LaMelo.
