Plenty of people within the NBA community are celebrating the news that former New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony will be inducted into the Hall of Fame. With an illustrious career, Anthony was one of the best players in the NBA during the 2000s, alongside his close friend, Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James.

As fans of Anthony express their excitement, LeBron James also reacted with a five-word message on his X account. Their relationship is widely regarded as one of the closest in NBA history.

After ESPN’s Shams Charania broke the news on X, LeBron reposted the announcement with a message: “Congratulations my brother! Peace God.” This heartfelt response underscores the deep bond between the two, even though LeBron is no longer active in the NBA.

Anthony’s induction into the Hall of Fame

With numerous accolades to back his legacy, Anthony will be part of the 2025 Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame class. The news was first reported by Shams Charania via his X account, detailing the achievement that few players ever reach in their careers.

Carmelo Anthony looks on during a NBL HoopsFest Press Conference at Crown Perth on September 19, 2024 in Perth, Australia.

“First ballot: Carmelo Anthony has been notified that he’s been elected into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2025, sources tell ESPN,” Charania wrote on his X account.

Among the many reasons for Anthony’s Hall of Fame induction, Charania highlighted a few notable accomplishments: “Anthony made 10 All-Star appearances and six All-NBA teams in 19 seasons, along with three Olympic gold medals for Team USA.”

James’ relationship with Anthony

Although they were rivals for most of Anthony’s career, the final year of his playing days saw him join forces with LeBron. They not only played together but also retired in the same year, a period that helped strengthen their bond within the NBA.

Since then, the two have kept in touch, sharing moments and often discussing the game. LeBron’s message was among the first Anthony received on social media following his retirement.

In their final season together, the Los Angeles Lakers made a deep run to the NBA Western Conference Finals, only to fall short against the Denver Nuggets. However, Anthony had already retired before the Lakers’ playoff series, and despite LeBron’s efforts, the team couldn’t overcome Denver at that time.
