Anthony, who now has a new gig lined up for the 2025–26 season, continues to host 7PM in Brooklyn, <strong>where McGrady recently appeared and revisited the hotly debated rookie race between James and Anthony</strong>.</p>



<p>Reflecting on that 2003 <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nba">NBA</a> season, McGrady pointed out the contrast in team success. While LeBron failed to take the Cleveland Cavaliers to the postseason, Anthony led the Nuggets to a playoff berth — <strong>a major accomplishment for any rookie. That context, McGrady suggested, should have tipped the scales</strong>.</p>



<p><em>“You knew <strong>Melo, Bron, and those dudes were gonna be tough</strong>,”</em> McGrady said on 7PM in Brooklyn. <em>“Honestly, I mean, no shade to anybody, <strong>but I thought [Carmelo] should have won Rookie of the Year because you took your team to the playoffs.</strong> That is a tremendous accomplishment for a rookie to come in, have that spotlight on him like that, and to get slighted on Rookie of the Year — I ain’t like that at all.”</em></p>

<p>McGrady recalled how Anthony’s physical style immediately set him apart in Denver. <p>He continued, <em>“You talk about Kobe, AI, myself, and Vince — and now we got some young energy coming in this m***<strong> that’s confident, aggressive, and got game</strong>.”</em></p>

<p>Not so long ago, <strong>NBA Commissioner David Stern</strong> ruled the league with an iron fist. Following the Allen Iverson frenzy, he even set up a dress code to make sure the players looked like professionals instead of hip-hop artists.</p>



<p>The players didn’t have to deal with a<strong> 24/7 news cycle</strong> because social media wasn’t a big thing — or even a thing. But they had to comply with Stern’s long set of policies.</p>



<p>With that in mind, Syracuse-bound <strong>Kiyan Anthony</strong> asked his father, Carmelo, whether he thinks the players have more freedom now and how it may have affected his game.</p>

<p><em>“Do you ever look at the way people in my generation post and be like, ‘Damn, I wish I had that freedom,’</em><strong><em> or do you think it would mess you up in a game?</em>“</strong> Kiyan responded.</p>

<p><strong><a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/carmelo-anthony">Carmelo Anthony</a></strong> spent nearly two decades as one of the <strong>NBA</strong>’s brightest stars, making his mark especially with the <strong>Denver Nuggets</strong> and <strong>New York Knicks</strong>. Now retired, the former forward shared his dream starting lineup, made up of a mix of current and former stars.</p>



<p>In a recent appearance on <em>Close Friends Only</em>, Anthony was asked to name his favorite lineup of basketball legends, and his answer caught many by surprise. He started by selecting an active player as his point guard: <em><strong>“I’ll go with <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/chris-paul">Chris Paul</a> because I played with Chris Paul for two Olympics.”</strong></em></p>



<p>Indeed, Carmelo and CP teamed up for <strong>Team USA</strong> in the <strong>2008 Beijing</strong> and <strong>2012 London</strong> Olympics, where they won gold medals. They were also part of the squad that competed at the <strong>2006 FIBA World Championship</strong> in Japan, finishing third after losing to <strong>Greece </strong>in the semifinals. Additionally, they briefly played together on the <strong>Houston Rockets.</strong></p>



<p>Anthony quickly rounded out his lineup with four more selections. <em><strong>“MJ (Michael Jordan), LeBron (James), (Kevin) Durant, and myself,”</strong></em> said the 2013 scoring champion without hesitation. One notable aspect of his picks: Carmelo leaned heavily toward players from his own era—those he either played alongside in the <strong><a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nba">NBA</a></strong> or with Team USA. All but one.</p>

<p>The lone exception was <strong><a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/michael-jordan">Michael Jordan</a></strong>, who retired in 2003 with the <strong>Washington Wizards</strong>, just before Anthony was selected third overall in the NBA Draft by the Nuggets. Including the <strong>Chicago Bulls</strong> legend in his starting five highlights the deep respect and admiration Carmelo holds for him.</p>

<p>Like Chris Paul, both <strong><a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/lebron-james">LeBron</a></strong> and Durant were teammates of Carmelo’s on various Team USA squads. James played with him during the disappointing <strong>2004 Athens Olympics</strong>—the only time in the past 33 years that Team USA failed to win gold—and also joined him for the Redeem Team in 2008 and again in London 2012. <strong><a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/kevin-durant">KD</a></strong> took part in the latter, as well as in Rio 2016, which was Melo’s final Olympic appearance.</p>



<p>Several high-profile stars from Anthony’s era were notably left off his list. Perhaps the most surprising omission was <strong>Kobe Bryant</strong>, a key member of that 2008 Redeem Team, who apparently lost his spot to Michael Jordan at two-guard.</p>



<p>Other players Carmelo shared the court with but didn’t include were <strong>Tim Duncan, Allen Iverson, Jason Kidd, Dwyane Wade, Russell Westbrook, James Harden, </strong>and <strong>Kyrie Irving.</strong></p>

<p>It’s been a little over two decades since the Syracuse Orange had<strong> Carmelo Anthony</strong> leading them to the national championship. Now, his son Kiyan will try to do the same.</p>



<p>Needless to say, that will be way easier said than done, and while he’s a highly-touted prospect, he’s not <strong>the same five-star phenom </strong>his old man was back in his heyday.</p>



<p>Even so, basketball isn’t the<strong> most important thing for the Anthonys, </strong>or at least not for Melo. Talking on his podcast, he got emotional and talked about how he hopes his son wants to be like him one day. Not as a hooper but as a man. </p>

<p><em>“That’s my first superhero. I want to be like my dad… So when it’s time for them to look in the mirror and say, Do I, can I be this? Am I that? Am I on my way to being that? Or in my way to being better than that? <strong>It’s a self-check that you got to look in the mirror, and you want to say that</strong>. I want to be like my dad,”</em> Anthony said. </p>

I don’t want you to tell me right now. </em></strong><em>Like let’s sit down and have a glass of wine later and you tell me how you truly feel… Then I could judge and see if I did the right thing based off of what me and you have that conversation on.”</em></p>

<p>Of course, no one’s perfect, and fathers will always want their sons to do better than they, but even though Anthony had<strong> his fair share of controversies</strong> in the past, he’s always been there for his son.</p>



<p>Basketball aside, that’s all anybody can ask from their father.<strong> Kiyan is just walking the first steps in his career, </strong>and it’ll be interesting to see how he fares once it’s all said and done.</p>

<p>There was a time when the was a legitimate debate about whether<strong> Carmelo Anthony</strong> should be the first-overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft. That speaks volumes about how good he was in high school and college.</p>



<p>Eventually, Anthony<strong> slipped to the third spot to the Denver Nuggets,</strong> with LeBron James going to the Cleveland Cavaliers and infamous bust Darko Milicic falling to the Detroit Pistons at No. 2.</p>



<p>Now, his son<strong> Kiyan Antohny</strong> is looking forward to following in his footsteps at the University of Syracuse. And while he’s not as highly-touted as his old man, he actually believes <strong>he’s a better shooter than him.</strong></p>

<p><em>“The way we score is kind of similar, like shooting and getting to the basket. I looked at his highlights and I looked at my highlights and it’ll be like some similarity there,”</em> he said on the Sloane Knows podcast. <strong><em>“I feel like I shoot a little better than him at this age. He was a little bit taller, and he got to the basket a little more so I feel like I could shoot a little better shooter than him.”</em></strong></p>

<p>Anthony is one of the highest-ranked players in the state of New York, and he will have one year to make his case for <strong>being a lottery pick</strong> like his father was a little over two decades ago.</p>

<p>And after spending his entire life<strong> working out with NBA players </strong>and NBA-caliber coaches, perhaps he has a valid case, and he’s, in fact, a better shooter than the perennial All-Star. </p>

<p>The former New York Knicks and Denver Nuggets’ star lauded the guard during a recent appearance on the “Podcast P” show with Paul George: <em>“I love Ace,” </em>Anthony said. “<em><strong>His skill set and his will to get to a spot to work on certain stuff. He’s relentless working on spots on the court.”</strong></em></p>



<p>The<strong> Syracuse Orange legend</strong> said that Bailey’s game resembles other players, which is why he doesn’t get as much attention and credit as others.&nbsp;</p>



<p><strong>“We’ve seen Ace before,”</strong> Anthony said. “That’s why it’s not talked about like that. We’ve seen Ace, we’ve seen PG, we’ve seen KG, we’ve seen Melo. That’s why it’s not talked about.”</p>

<p>Despite being one of the most-hyped prospects in New York City and the son of a local legend like Carmelo Anthony, <strong>Kiyan Anthony </strong>wasn’t invited to the McDonald’s All-American Game.</p>



<p>Multiple people resented that decision, but it only fueled his fire. He ran away with MVP honors at the<strong> Jordan Brand Classic </strong>during the weekend, giving Syracuse fans a glimpse of what’s to come.</p>



<p>With that in mind, former <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nba" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NBA</a> All-Star <strong>Gilbert Arenas,</strong> who advocated for Anthony to be an All-American, took to social media to double down on his take after such a big performance.</p>

<p>Anthony decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and also committed to play at Syracuse. Needless to say, he’ll have some big shoes to fill, <strong>as Anthony led them to the title in 2003.</strong></p>

<p>Even if that’s not the case, he’s firmly expected to turn pro after one season, and given his lineage, privileged gene pool, and certified bucket-getting skills, he will most likely be a<strong> top-ten draft pick. </strong></p>
