It’s getting more common to see All-Stars teaming up to try and win an NBA championship. Back in the day, you could never imagine Michael Jordan and John Stockton playing together to dominate the rest of the league, as the best players were also the fiercest competitors. Over the past decade or so, that trend has drastically changed. Now, players don’t get called out for joining fellow superstars and there isn’t a betterexample of that than the Brooklyn Nets featuring Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant, and James Harden.

Don’t get me wrong, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to win a ring or wanting to play with the creme of the crop. I, personally, enjoy witnessing greatness unfold and the best players on earth on the same hardwood.

But other players don’t feel that way. Damian Lillard, for instance, is quite unfazed by these modern superteams, and recently claimed that he would never do what the Brooklyn Nets’ stars are doing.

Damian Lillard Throws Shade At The Brooklyn Nets And Superteams

“It’s forcing dudes to be like well, I’m going to go play with this person or if I get with this person. But to me, like, if that’s what they want to do, I don’t got no problem with it, it’s whatever… But for me personally, that’s just not something I can do. I’d rather go out there and put my best foot forward and lose before I do that, because I know I can win if I do that,” Lillard toldLindsey Wisniewski of NBC Sports.

Then again, we’ve heard this speech before. Then, desperation hits, and the players force their way out of their teams to team up with other stars and pursue a championship before they retire.

For now, it doesn’t seem like Lillard is looking forward to ending his career in a different place than Portland, and he’ll try to establish his legacy by being the guy who took down all the superteams on his own.
