NBA Rumors: Stephen Curry may welcome key addition as Warriors eye veteran guard

The Golden State Warriors are preparing for the 2025–26 NBA season and may look to add a veteran guard to the squad, aiming to give Stephen Curry support in a key area of the game.

The Warriors are planning a roster overhaul to address weaknesses exposed during the previous campaign and have reportedly shown interest in players like Al Horford and De’Anthony Melton. However, they are also considering a move that would carry particular significance for Steph.

“They want some extra shooting. Another name I’m hearing with mutual interest is Seth Curry actually, as a potential bench shooting option, with a family tie,” reporter Anthony Slater said on ESPN Thursday.

Seth is, of course, Stephen’s younger brother. The two have been in the NBA concurrently since the younger Curry joined the Memphis Grizzlies in 2013, but they have never played on the same team. Now, at age 34 and set to begin his 12th NBA season, the guard could have the opportunity to join Golden State.

Last year, Seth Curry appeared in 68 games with the Charlotte Hornets, starting in 14. He averaged 6.5 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 0.9 assists—modest numbers reflecting limited impact during the regular season.

However, the guard led the league in three-point shooting percentage, finishing at .456. That remains Seth’s biggest strength, as he currently ranks 7th on the list of NBA career 3-point field goal percentage leaders, with an impressive .4329.

That list is topped by Golden State head coach Steve Kerr, who posted a .4540 mark during his playing days. Behind him are Hubert Davis, Luke Kennard, Drazen Petrovic, Joe Harris, and Jason Kapono. Stephen Curry is currently 13th on that list, with a .4232 percentage.

The Warriors are also targeting Horford and Melton

Beyond their reported interest in Seth Curry, the Warriors have placed significant focus on a center. “Al Horford, who you hear is also mulling retirement, if he’s not on the roster next year, it’s a big miss by the Warriors. Because that’s in their plans, they need a stretch five,” Slater said.

As for the need to add a perimeter defender, Golden State also seems clear on its top target. “There is mutual interest in a reunion with De’Anthony Melton, who played only six games with them last year before he torn ACL, but he was a really good fit. Steph Curry likes him,” added the NBA insider.
