The San Francisco 49ers have a wide receiver who finished last season with 37 receptions and no touchdowns, and he recently said he wants to return after already speaking with the head coach about the situation. The player is Kendrick Bourne, who returned to the team in 2025 after spending four years with the Patriots.
Bourne was clear when speaking with 49ers Webzone about his desire to come back. “I’m trying to come back. I talk to Kyle, I got a good relationship with him. We had a good exit meeting, so I’m trying to make it happen. That’s always the goal.”
He also made it clear that he felt last NFL season was a positive one for him. “San Francisco is home. And so, coming back, having a good year was powerful. So I’m trying to run it back. Money talks, but that’s definitely home, so that’s holding a special place in my heart.”
Bourne’s last touchdown with the 49ers
It’s not that Bourne hasn’t performed well, he scored multiple touchdowns during his time with the Patriots, but with the 49ers, he hasn’t scored a touchdown since December 20, 2020. On that occasion, he found the end zone against the Cowboys in a regular-season game. After that season, he left the team to play for New England.
In total, Bourne has 11 touchdowns with the 49ers across the five seasons he has played with the team, the same number of touchdowns he scored with the Patriots in four seasons (2021–2024). Having fewer seasons doesn’t make him a bad receiver.
The 2025 season was Bourne’s second-best in terms of average yards per reception, with a total of 14.9 yards, just below his 2017 season when he also played for the 49ers and averaged 16.1 yards per reception. Last season, Bourne ranked second in that category behind Skyy Moore, who finished the year with 17.4 yards per reception.
