The Pittsburgh Steelers’ perfect season has been far from perfect lately. They went from being the only undefeated team in the NFL after 12 seasons to losing three consecutive games, some of which they shouldhave won them.
Their most recent setback came before non-other than a divisional rival, the Cincinnati Bengals, who are already knocked out of the playoff picture. Shockingly, the Bengals shut them down in the first half and they never took their feet off the gas.
It goes without saying that Mike Tomlin and the Steelers boast one of the best defenses in the league. However, when it comes to their offense, they have left a lot to be desired over the past couple of years.
And, while last season’s struggles were understandable due to Ben Roethlisberger’s injury, but now that they have their starting quarterback under center again, there’s just no more room for excuses.
Ben Roethlisberger Says He’s Not 100%, Makes No Excuses
That’s why, when asked about whether he felt like he was 100% after that many injuries, Ben Roethlisberger didn’t want to make any excuses: “Well I don’t think anybody that plays this game at any position whether it’s Week 1 or Week 16 feels 100 percent. So I would say, no, I don’t feel 100 percent, but nobody does right now,” Big Ben said.
Roethlisberger passed for just 7 yards during the first half of the game and he’s far from the Hall of Famer quarterback he’s been for most of his career. Still, it’s always hard to blame just one player for his team’s struggles.
Truth be told, the Steelers’ receivers have dropped multiple wide-open passes and their running game has been non-existent, which makes it difficult to think that they have what it takes to thrive in the playoffs.
