The Kansas City Chiefs and Andy Reid are facing a crucial offseason for the near future of the franchise. Patrick Mahomes is still recovering from his left knee injury and, although he appears likely to be ready for Week 1, nothing is certain.

Additionally, on offense, general manager Brett Veach made one of the biggest splashes in free agency by signing Super Bowl champion running back Kenneth Walker III. As if that were not enough, in a highly anticipated announcement, Travis Kelce confirmed he will not retire.

However, the biggest problem is on defense. The Chiefs lost two key pieces in Jaylen Watson and Trent McDuffie. Given this scenario, moves have already begun to strengthen the secondary.

Who did the Chiefs just sign?

The Chiefs have signed Kaiir Elam, according to a report from Mike Garafolo. The cornerback was selected in the first round of the 2022 Draft by the Bills and played three seasons in Buffalo.

In 2025, Elam was traded to the Dallas Cowboys to help a secondary depleted by injuries. However, as part of one of the worst defenses in the NFL, his impact was not as expected and he was waived in November.

The 24-year-old finished the 2025 season playing for the Tennessee Titans and now, as a free agent, will have the opportunity to revamp his career with the Kansas City Chiefs.
