The Dallas Cowboys have high expectations for this NFL season, again. Their QB Dak Prescott spoke with the media and talked about how the offense needs to be explosive, given the talent they have. Specifically, there’s one man who needs to bounce back after a frustrating, injury-filled 2024 season.
That man is TE Jake Ferguson. After a 2023 Pro Bowl season, 2024 was the year where Ferguson could’ve taken the NFL by storm. However, he played through injuries and battled concussions that made him miss three games.
Ferguson’s level was not what everyone hoped it would be. He ended the season with 494 yards and no touchdowns. Dak Prescott stated that Ferguson is “a competitor, he wants to win, has a high standard, so I know a year like that is only pushing him.”
Prescott went on to say that Ferguson is key for the Cowboys offense. “The details, the question he’s asking, our relationship is only growing, he’s a talented guy, he’s an enforcer on this offense, and we need him.” With this, Ferguson should be poised for a bounce back season.
Too many mouths to feed for Dak Prescott
Dak Prescott himself was a guy who got injured last season. He only played 8 games last year and had a 3-5 record. Now, not only is he back, but he has a deep roster to rely on as Dallas prepares to compete.
Dallas has an elite WR in CeeDee Lamb. However, the Cowboys went and traded for Steelers’ George Pickens, and now they have one of the best duos in the whole NFL. Then you get to Ferguson at TE. This means Prescott will have plenty of talent to target all over the field.
Dallas faces challenges with new HC
One of the biggest stories after the Cowboys fired Mike McCarthy was who the next head coach was going to be. On January 24th, it was announced that the then-OC Brian Schottenheimer was getting promoted to take the reigns of the team.
This is good for the offense as Schottenheimer and the players know each other and there’s no change to the playbook. However, Schottenheimer is now a first-time HC and that carries lots of more responsibilities than just being a coordinator. Can the Cowboys deliver a Super Bowl? Their fans would certainly hope so, but their realistic expectations should be stay competitive and establish if Schottenheimer is indeed the right man for the job.
