Many believe this could finally be the season the Miami Dolphins make their mark in the NFL. Among them is head coach Mike McDaniel, who’s confident that Tua Tagovailoa and the rest of the team will rise to the occasion and be ready to make a serious statement.

One player hoping for a big bounce-back season with the Dolphins is Jaylen Waddle — a key piece in the team’s system who many believe is poised for redemption after a down year.

McDaniel is one of the strongest believers in what the talented wide receiver can bring to the team — especially when it comes to building strong chemistry with Tua and the rest of the offensive unit.

“I think therein proves who he is — where he doesn’t make it a thing because it wasn’t,” the HC said via NFL.com. “His game is growing and he is going to find ways to exceed each and every year as he knows to be the standard now. … It’s kind of like a badge of honor in that he doesn’t see it that way, nor should he, and he’s a secure player that is working on his craft and the returns on that, he knows with his life wisdom that the returns will be very favorable.

“I think he’s shown his teammates who he really is,” McDaniel also added. “I think one thing that you can’t really minimize is from a receiver’s perspective, having quarterbacks that you didn’t even practice with in training camp — that’s a difficult task. The way he worked on his game during the season has transferred into what we need to see from him, from every player.

Can the Dolphins be contenders next season?

The Miami Dolphins’ potential as contenders in the upcoming NFL season hinges significantly on the health and consistent availability of QB Tua Tagovailoa. While his arm talent and quick release perfectly complement Mike McDaniel’s offensive scheme, his history of concussions remains a primary concern.

The offensive firepower undeniably remains a strength, with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle leading a dynamic receiving corps. Their ability to stretch defenses vertically and create explosive plays will continue to be the engine of Miami’s scoring. The offensive strategy will heavily leverage their unique talents, aiming to keep opposing secondaries constantly on their heels and opening up opportunities for the run game.

However, the Dolphins will undoubtedly feel the void left by the departures of key defensive back Jalen Ramsey and tight end Jonnu Smith. Ramsey’s absence leaves a significant hole in the secondary, impacting their ability to shut down elite receivers and generate turnovers. Losing Smith, who had a productive 2024 season, also depletes their tight end depth, potentially reducing a reliable short-yardage and red-zone target.
