Although Josh Allen and the team had an impressive season, their loss to the Chiefs kept them from that accolade. Despite this, Brandon Beane, the franchise’s GM, has full confidence in the QB’s talent to eventually lift a Vince Lombardi Trophy.
During a recent appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Beane highly valued Allen’s resilience throughout his career, even before arriving in the NFL. Despite all the criticism he received, the quarterback managed to tune it out and become one of the best in his position.
“He had a non-traditional journey,” Beane said on The Pat McAfee Show. “Junior college, emailing all these coaches to get a scholarship, gets one offer at Wyoming. We know all the people that were questioning ‘could he play quarterback at the NFL?’ He gets drafted where he was drafted. He was criticized, we were criticized for doing it. He never wavered, he took the criticism. He’s always had that chip.
“Doing our research, this young man, he had a chip long before people were giving him reasons to have a chip. He’s got a chip now, as excited as he was and honored to win the MVP. He knows and we know the ultimate goal is to win a championship. That didn’t remove any chip winning the MVP.”
Since his arrival at the franchise, Allen has become the undisputed leader of the team. He has led the Bills to a 76-34 record in seven years as the starter, despite not having reached the Super Bowl due to back-to-back losses to the Chiefs in the Conference Championship.
Dan Marino’s support for Allen
The sting of not achieving a Vince Lombardi Trophy is something that still lingers for Josh Allen. Many might think that after several years of trying and failing, it would be an uphill battle the following season. However, there are those who believe, like Dan Marino, that the Bills’ QB is mentally strong and will somehow achieve his goal.
“Josh Allen is extremely disappointed…he’ll think about losing that playoff game all offseason…but also he’s a tough dude. He’s mentally tough…I think he’ll get over the hump,” said Marino on The Pat McAfee Show.
Support from renowned colleagues is crucial for Josh Allen in his relentless pursuit of a Super Bowl. The only question now is whether he can achieve it in the near future with Sean McDermott’s team.
