The New York Jets have parted ways with Davante Adams. The wide receiver is now searching for a new team, and this time, his preferred landing spot may not include Aaron Rodgers.

During the 2024 NFL season, the Jets sought to strengthen their offense by adding a top-tier wide receiver. Aaron Rodgers personally pushed for the front office to acquire Davante Adams, and ultimately, they made the move.

Unfortunately for the AFC East club, the partnership didn’t work as expected. The team failed to achieve the desired success, leading the front office to part ways with both Adams and Rodgers this offseason.

Report: Davante Adams may not follow Aaron Rodgers to his next team

Rodgers put up solid numbers in 2024, but team success never followed. Even with the arrival of Adams, his preferred target, the Jets were nowhere near playoff contention, prompting major changes

When the Jets announced Rodgers’ departure, speculation quickly arose that Adams would be next. Those reports were confirmed on Tuesday when New York officially released the wide receiver.

Now, fans are eager to see where Adams will land. While he has followed Rodgers for most of his career, he may have a new destination in mind—one that doesn’t include the veteran quarterback.

According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Adams prefers to play on the West Coast. However, with few teams there currently in need of a quarterback, another reunion with Rodgers seems unlikely.

Aaron Rodgers #8 and Davante Adams #17 of the New York Jets leave the field after beating the Miami Dolphins 32-20 at MetLife Stadium on January 05, 2025 in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

The Raiders remain the only team that could pair Adams with Rodgers again, which could pave the way for his return to Las Vegas. However, other West Coast teams—such as the Broncos, Chargers, and 49ers—may be more focused on acquiring an elite wide receiver rather than a quarterback.

Why did the Jets release Davante Adams?

Last year, the Jets traded a third-round pick to the Raiders to acquire Adams, hoping to rekindle his chemistry with Rodgers. However, the move didn’t pay off as expected.

As part of a major rebuild, the Jets opted to release Adams, clearing $29.9 million in cap space. Now, the star receiver is free to sign with any team that offers him a competitive deal for the 2025 season.
