Derrick Henry has made headlines in recent days after agreeing to a lucrative contract extension with the Baltimore Ravens, but his work is far from finished. According to recent statements from one of the NFL’s top running backs, Henry is still focused on elevating his game in hopes of achieving great things alongside his teammates.
At 31 years old, Henry is widely regarded as one of the greatest running backs of all time. However, some believe that his age could become a limiting factor as he looks to maintain his peak performance — a notion the former Titans star strongly disagrees with.
In recent comments to the media, one of Lamar Jackson’s key weapons revealed that, as time goes on, he aims to continue improving and becoming a better player for his team.
“I want to be great,” Henry told reporters on Monday via NFL.com. “No matter how good it is or how bad it is, I’m always focused on me trying to get better each and every day and each and every way I can. I think, for you to be great, you have to focus on being consistent. You got to outwork everybody and that’s the approach I have to take.
“I love football. I love playing. I know people look at the age, but I don’t really try to focus on that. I just focus on: How can Derrick Henry be better? How can Derrick Henry help the Ravens get to where they want to get to?”
Henry shares his thoughts after signing contract extension
There’s no doubt that Derrick Henry’s talent makes him a true gem in the NFL, which is why securing his stay in Baltimore was something the Ravens’ front office simply had to make happen.
Once the deal was finalized, one of the league’s top running backs publicly thanked the franchise for the trust placed in him, promising to repay it with effort, dedication, and hard work.
“I’m grateful for this organization,” he said. “Just like last year, coming off the season I had, you know, I wasn’t really happy, and I wanted to prove myself and just get an opportunity and they gave me that opportunity. I’m very appreciative how much they value me, to give me an extension and I just want to show them how much it means to me and how much this organization means to me by the way I work and what I do in the field.”
