The Seattle Seahawks are gearing up for a challenging 2025 NFL season with Sam Darnold as the focal point of their offense. Head coach Mike Macdonald’s team is undergoing a transformation, and the connection with the new faces is beginning to solidify.
Klint Kubiak joined Macdonald’s staff as the new offensive coordinator, while the quarterback position is now held by Darnold, who signed a three-year, $100.5 million contract with Seattle. The former Minnesota Vikings player is coming off a Pro Bowl season in 2024 and now faces the challenge of proving his resurgence and leading the Seahawks back to the postseason.
In line with that, new additions continue to arrive. On the defensive side, defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence has made a strong impression on coach Macdonald, who didn’t hesitate to praise him after seeing him in the early stages of training camp with the Seahawks.
Macdonald’s comment on Lawrence
Macdonald did not hide his admiration for new defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence, whom he described as “the best drill player I’ve ever seen in my life.” He made this remark following the team’s first day of practice at training camp.
Macdonald also highlighted that Lawrence understands the purpose behind every drill and gives “one thousand percent on every rep.” His work ethic reflects not only his physical preparation but also his competitive mindset. The coach believes this attitude could be key in revitalizing a defense that has undergone major changes in recent years.
Lawrence’s arrival to the Seahawks
Lawrence is a 12-year NFL veteran who was acquired this offseason and quickly made his mark with an intensity that sets the tone for the rest of the defensive unit. His addition is part of a broader defensive rebuild that also includes a revamped offense with new wide receivers like Cooper Kupp and Marquez Valdes-Scantling.
