Steelers could help Aaron Rodgers, Mike Tomlin with yet another weapon apart from former Dolphins TE Jonnu Smith

Mike Tomlin now has two more key pieces to build a competitive roster—but it might not end there, as another offensive weapon could be on the way to Steel City to help support Aaron Rodgers.

Potentially next to join Pittsburgh’s ranks is Gabe Davis, a former key target of Josh Allen during his time with the Buffalo Bills. The explosive wide receiver is coming off a season with Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars, and reportedly wouldn’t mind a move to the AFC North.

The news was reported by NFL insider Jeremy Fowler, who shared more details about this potential move via his official X account (formerly Twitter), sparking excitement among many in Pittsburgh.

“Free agent WR Gabe Davis still an option for Steelers on offense, too. He really enjoyed his visit there. Though he could take his time to sign, possibly closer to training camp,” the insider reported via @JFowlerESPN.

Gabe Davis’ 2024 season with the Jacksonville Jaguars, his first with the team after signing a three-year, $39 million contract, was unfortunately cut short due to a meniscus injury. In the 10 games he played, the WR recorded 20 receptions for 239 receiving yards, averaging 12.0 yards per catch. He also scored 2 receiving touchdowns on 42 targets.

These numbers represented career lows for the 26-year-old wide receiver, falling short of expectations after his productive tenure with the Buffalo Bills. Ultimately, his disappointing output led to his release by the Jaguars after just one season.

Steelers gear up for a big season

The Pittsburgh Steelers have made aggressive moves for 2025, bringing in Aaron Rodgers at quarterback and acquiring star cornerback Jalen Ramsey and tight end Jonnu Smith. Rodgers, a four-time MVP, instantly elevates their Super Bowl aspirations, while Ramsey significantly boosts their secondary.
