The 2025 NHL Western Conference Final series between the Edmonton Oilers and the Dallas Stars is tied 1-1 after two intense games. Anything can happen in this showdown, and tensions are rising—this time with warning shots fired at Connor McDavid’s team.

In Game 2, the Oilers shut out the Stars 3-0 in Dallas, with goaltender Stuart Skinner standing out after recording his third shutout of the playoffs with 25 saves. The Stars are determined not to lose their grip on the series and have made it clear through their statements that they still believe they can win in what has become a tightly contested battle.

At the same time, the game was marked by a controversial play in the third period when Edmonton defenseman Darnell Nurse slashed the left foot of Roope Hintz, one of the Stars’ key forwards. Hintz had to leave the ice unable to put weight on his leg, and Nurse was assessed only a minor penalty after review. The decision sparked outrage from left wing Mason Marchment.

Marchment’s anger and the warning for McDavid’s Oilers

“Yeah, for sure. A lot of that stuff, you just keep in the back of your mind, and if the opportunity presents itself then, you take your chance. We’ve got a long series here,” Marchment said, according to Sportsnet’s insider Mark Spector.

Coach Pete DeBoer sends bold admission about McDavid and the Oilers

Roope Hintz’s injury wasn’t just a moment of frustration—it symbolized the Stars’ broader discontent over what they felt was a lack of serious disciplinary action. Hintz suffered a cut near his feet from Darnell Nurse, and after review, Nurse received only a minor sanction. That decision sparked visible frustration from head coach Pete DeBoer.

DeBoer didn’t hold back and even brought up McDavid when addressing the situation. “I’ll answer your question with a question. Does anyone in this room think that if Connor McDavid gets carried off the ice like that, it’s not a five-minute major? Oh. That’s my answer to your question,” the Stars head coach said a a press conference.
