Premier League transfer rumors: Newcastle, Southampton want Weston McKennie

After four seasons playing in Germany’sBundesliga, Weston McKennie may leave Schalke 04 in this transfer window as two Premier League teams want the young American midifelder on their squads. This way, one of the most promising players of the US soccer men’s national team could join the best soccer league in the world.

McKennie caught the attentionof Newcastle and Southampton. The 21-year-old midfielder has already accumulated 19 caps with the national team and is considered one of the biggest stars for USA.

According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle manager Steve Bruce is willing to spend£20m on McKennie, which would be all the club’s budget for this transfer window. Schalke 04 are askinga price of around £22mfor the midfielder.

However, Southampton are also in the race, as they are looking for a young midfielder to replacePierre-Emile Højbjerg, who left the Saints to join fellow Premier League club Tottenham.
