Matchday 1 of the Tokyo 2020 Men's Soccer Tournament is over. Even the second round has brought several upsets as well, as Honduras managed to beat New Zealand, and Brazil failed to claim another win after drawing 3-3 with Ivory Coast.
Argentina finally got their first three points in the Olympics after triumphing 1-0 over Egypt, while France salvaged a late 4-3 victory over South Africa in Matchday 2. Spain have also claimed their first victory in the tournament, after beating Australia 1-0.
Then, Japan shocked Mexico with a surprising 2-1 win, and South Korea put four past Romania. In the final Matchday 2 game, 10-men Germany shakily grabbed a 3-2 win after the disappointing opening round when they lost 4-2 to Brazil. 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games Group Stage – Standings
After Matchday 2, Japan lead Group A with six points, while both Mexico and France have three points each and are tied for second and third place. Les Bleus have a worse goal difference, and thus they are behind El Tri on the table. At the moment, South Africa are located on the bottom with no points. In Group B, all four teams have so far grabbed three points. However, South Korea sit on the top with four scored goals, leaving Honduras and New Zealand behind, both with an equal score, and Romania are placed last with the least goals scored and conceded.
Spain hold the top position in Group C with four points, second-placed Australia and third-placed Argentina have three points each, but Australia have netted more goals than the Argentine team. Egypt sit on the bottom with just one point won so far. Brazil and Ivory Coast are the two teams in Group D with four points so far.
