Erling Haaland scored the third goal for Manchester City in Matchday 2 of the 2024-25 UEFA Champions League against Slovan Bratislava. It’s the Norwegian first goal in the competition this season, also marking his 42nd Champions League goal in 41 total appearances.
With this goal, Haaland is only eight goals away from breaking into the top 10 all-time UCL top scorers list. The Norwegian found a space in the box after receiving a great assist by Rico Lewis, leaving him one-on-one with the goalkeeper, who couldn’t do anything to stop the strike.
Haaland, who had gone three consecutive matches without scoring in the Champions League, appeared to maintain his impressive average of over 1 goal per game in the tournament.
Before, İlkay Gündogan (7′) and Phil Foden (14′) had scored the first goals of the night. However, Haaland wasn’t the last to find the back of the net. James Mcatee, who made his Champions League debut, also scored to give City the fourth goal.
With this victory, City started to regain their pace after their goalless draw against Inter on Matchday 1. Pep Guardiola’s side is currently in fourth place in the table, awaiting the results of the other matches.
Haaland’s impressive stats this season
Haaland is a goal-scoring machine. In addition to his goal in the Champions League, the Norwegian has scored 10 goals in just six Premier League matches, an extraordinary record. He even became the fastest player, alongside Ronaldo, to score 100 goals in a club.
The Manchester City star achieved this milestone in 105 matches, matching Cristiano Ronaldo’s record at Real Madrid. If Haaland maintains his impressive statistics, he is poised to surpass the records of even more legendary players.
