A double Matchday of Conmebol Qualifiers is coming and the teams are looking to add points that will allow them to be in the next 2026 World Cup. The world champions, Argentina, have two tough games, which they will have to face without Angel Di Maria. Here we tell you why the current Benfica player will be absent.
Angel Di Maria has been, alongside Lionel Messi, one of the most prominent players for Argentina in recent years, playing a crucial role in the teams that secured the latest “Albiceleste” titles: the Copa America, the Finalissima, and most notably, the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
His current form is also excellent, making him one of the standout players in Benfica’s roster. With the Portuguese team, Di Maria is actively competing for the Primeira Liga title, as well as in the Champions League, which is why his absence garners significant attention.
Why Di Maria will not play for Argentina?
Unfortunately, the player born in the city of Rosario, Santa Fe, Argentina, has suffered a muscle injury that will sideline him for an extended period. This injury occurred during the Benfica match against Inter, when, at the 32nd minute, the Argentine requested a substitution.
Roger Schmidt, the coach of the Portuguese team, was asked about Di Maria‘s condition after the Inter match, and he confirmed the muscle injury. The player was already absent from his team’s game against Estoril on Saturday, October 7th.
