Caitlin Clark is slowly working her way back from the groin injury that has kept her off the court for the Indiana Fever this season. She missed 10 games already—but to fans, it’s felt like much more. Recently, though, she was spotted doing something everyone had been waiting to see, especially those lucky enough to witness it in person.

According to a report from Scott Agness, Clark took part in a 5-on-5 practice—a promising sign that her injury is healing. The session took place in front of season-ticket holders, making them the first fans to see her back on the court, shooting and passing the ball.

Clark’s last game with the Fever came on June 24, when she scored just six points. It was already known she was deep into her recovery process, especially after Fever head coach Stephanie White commented on her progress.

How have the Fever done without Clark?

Since Clark’s last WNBA appearance, Indiana has won two games—one against Dallas and another against Las Vegas—but also dropped two to the Los Angeles Sparks. At the very least, Clark was available to help during the Commissioner’s Cup game.

“Fever coach Stephanie White said at practice Friday that Clark had gone through semi-live shooting drills but hadn’t gone full speed in practice yet. White added that Clark was going to be evaluated Saturday morning, but she was listed as out Friday evening in the Fever’s injury report,” reported ESPN’s Alexa Philippou on July 4.

Holding steady without Clark—for now

Last season, through the first 18 games, Clark was averaging 16.3 points per game and the Fever were 7–11. This season, Indiana holds a 9–9 record. It’s not a major leap forward, but they’re at least staying afloat—and showing signs they may not need to rely on Clark for everything.
