It’s not so usual to hear BYU’s name being called when we talk about the college basketball powerhouses. However, that’s going to be a different story in the upcoming season.
Notably, that’s because they’ve gotten their hands on one of the highest-ranked prospects we’ve seen in a while, and everybody will be keeping tabs on the AJ Dybantsa show.
Dybantsa is projected as an early candidate to be the first-overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. However, before that, he wants to lead the Cougars all the way and win a national championship.
AJ Dybantsa is going for the big prize
“I think we all have one goal in mind, just to win a national championship, there’s nothing less,” Dybantsa said. “We made it to the Sweet 16 last year in [Kevin Young’s] first year of coaching, so I mean, we’re intended to go farther.”

At the end of the day, it takes much more than just a player to get the job done. In fact, teams led by freshmen rarely go the distance. However, there are always exceptions to that rule.
Dybantsa is clearly a unique type of player, and we’ve seen some elite talents lead small programs all the way in the past. Hopefully, that will be the case with Kevin Young’s team next season.
