Dawn Staley and the South Carolina Gamecocks may have lost much more than just one game. They were so close to repeating as national champions, and theyāve now also lost one of their best defenders.
Staleyās team crushed past Tennessee Tech, Indiana, Maryland, Duke, and Texas, but they couldnāt keep the momentum rolling against Paige Bueckers and the UConn Huskies.
Notably, that heartbreaking loss also marked the end of MiLaysia Fulwileyās days with the program. She entered the transfer portal after two years, and she wrote a heartfelt letter to bid farewell.

āI want to begin by thanking my hometown of Columbia, South Carolina,ā Fulwiley said. āWithout my village,I wouldnāt be where I am today, chasing my dreams. Thank you to Coach Staley, and my teammates for the unforgettable memories weāve created together. Most importantly, thank you to the FAMS for embracing me and supporting me over the past two years. After thoughtful consideration, Iāve decided to enter the transfer portal. Iām excited for whatās next and grateful for all the continued love and support.ā
