<p>Dawn Staley and the<strong> South Carolina Gamecocks </strong>had several encounters with Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Some were tough and ended their season, but she still holds bragging rights over them.</p>



<p>The Gamecocks were one of two teams that <strong>prevented Clark from winning the highly coveted national championship</strong> that would’ve cemented her as the women’s <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball </a>GOAT.</p>



<p>In a recent interview, the legendary coach talked about her<strong> strategy to beat Clark</strong> in the title game, stating that her team couldn’t allow her to turn into a playmaker. </p>

<p>“<strong><em>The most dangerous thing about Caitlin Clark is her passing ability,</em></strong>” Dawn Staley said on Kylie Kelce’s podcast. <em>“Her ability to make other people better, other people’s production along with her production. That’s how you win. If you could take that away — and that was our emphasis when we won, when we beat them in the finals last year — we said, ‘Caitlin Clark’s gonna get 30.’ It is — she can’t have 12 assists.”</em></p>

<p>The renowned coach continued by stating that Clark was elite at making everybody around her better, so, given her team’s own limitations, the best way to stop Iowa was to <strong>prevent Clark from feeding her teammates:</strong></p>



<p>“<em><strong>Because if she’s got 12 assists, then she’s involving her teammates in a way that doesn’t quite add up. We can’t produce enough points like they can. And it’s probably easy points.</strong> They’re probably layups. Those 12 assists are probably layups. They’re not three-point shots, because we could defend that. It’s hard to defend a layup in transition when she’s picking you apart,”</em> she continued.</p>

<p>At the end of the day, there’s<strong> only so much you can do</strong> when it comes to facing a player of Clark’s caliber. You can’t stop them; you can only hope to contain them. Fortunately for her, it worked, as they held her to just five assists in the title-clinching game.</p>

<p><strong>Cooper Flagg</strong> hadn’t even announced his commitment to play for the Duke Blue Devils when he was already one of the most talked-about players in the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball</a> scene.</p>

<p>Coaches have to be tacticians, recruiters, <strong>sports psychologists,</strong> and whatnot. They also have to be mentors, father figures, and prepare those young men not only for a game but also for life.</p>



<p>That’s why Kentucky Wildcats coach<strong> Mark Pope</strong> knows that he can’t do it all on his own. Recently, he admitted that he wasn’t good at one key aspect: Fixing broken shots.</p>

<p><strong><em>“So just so you know, in my recruiting, I cannot teach players to shoot,” </em></strong>Pope told Certified Kentucky.<strong> <em>“By the time they get to me, I cannot fix mechanics. I will not even try. If a player does not have solid mechanics, I will not touch them</em></strong><em>. I just cannot. I just have had no success. I am not a good enough coach to do it. These guys, by the time they get to us, they have had hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of thousands of shots. And if they have practiced hundreds and hundreds of thousands of times with bad mechanics, then I cannot touch them. I really will not. Even a great athlete, I will not touch him if his mechanics are not OK.”</em></p>

<p>Of course, that’s a big limitation. Some players thrive off their athleticism and instincts, and it takes them a little longer to develop a reliable jump shot. Some even have to<strong> wait until the pros.</strong></p>

<p>Unfortunately, that will also mean losing some of the best players on the team. But if someone who’s been used to that in the past, <strong>that’s definitely Coach John Calipari.</strong></p>



<p>That’s why, in a recent appearance on “The Jim Rome Show,” the Arkansas Razorbacks wanted to help <strong>NBA hopeful Adu Thiero</strong> by raving about one of his most impressive traits. </p>

<p>Of course, at the end of the day, all coaches will always look to hype up their guys and this isn’t the exception to that rule. Nevertheless, <strong>it’s hard to argue with Calipari’s assessment.</strong></p>

<p>A year after beating Caitlin Clark in the national championship game, Dawn Staley’s South Carolina Gamecocks succumbed to the<strong> Paige Bueckers-led UConn Huskies</strong>, 82-59. Geno Auriemma’s squad played a terrific game to beat South Carolina for the second time in the season.</p>

<p>With Paige Bueckers creating her legacy in the WNBA following a championship run with the <strong>UConn Huskies</strong> in the 2024-25 NCAA season, <strong>Azzi Fudd</strong>, a close friend of Bueckers, has stepped up as the leader of the team.</p>



<p>Fudd, who also flirted with the possibility of going pro with Bueckers, <strong>returned to Connecticut to help Geno Auriemma and Co. </strong>defend their national championship. <strong>Sarah Strong</strong>, another team star, is enjoying Fudd’s new facet, but she’s <strong>not wasting opportunities to tease her teammate</strong>.</p>



<p>Overtime WBB <strong>shared a video of the Huskies’ practice on Instagram</strong>, where Fudd had a microphone on her for the session. The clip showed Fudd and Strong playfully going at it as the team prepares for another season.</p>

<p><strong>Geno Auriemma and Dawn Staley</strong> have made the UConn Huskies and the South Carolina Gamecocks two powerhouses in college women’s basketball. They have created an entertaining rivalry in the last decade or so, as they’ve clashed multiple times, sometimes with a lot at stake, giving fans exciting matchups.</p>



<p>Their most recent meeting happened in April, when the Gamecocks suffered <strong>an 82-59 loss against UConn in the 2025 national championship game.</strong> This growing rivalry isn’t as intense as the one Auriemma had with the late Pat Summitt, but analyst Mark Zanetto compared it to one of the most exciting in tennis.</p>

<p>Following a lone season with the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, Ace Bailey declared for the <strong>2025 NBA Draft </strong>alongside long-time teammate Dylan Harper. The guard/forward is considered one of the best players in his class, as many think he should be at least a top-three pick in the upcoming draft.</p>



<p>After posting <strong>17.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.3 blocks per game </strong>in 30 games with the Scarlet Knights, not many are sold on Bailey’s abilities to be consistent in the league.</p>



<p>Draft expert<strong> Jonathan Givony</strong> shot down any notion suggesting that Bailey can’t be a solid player in the association. During an appearance on the “Dunc’d On” podcast with Nate Duncan, Givony didn’t mince words.</p>

<p>Givony also detailed how Bailey’s <strong>versatility and athleticism</strong> can allow him to play more than one position in the association.</p>

After spending his high school career between Sierra Canyon High School and Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, while flirting with the idea of transferring to Campbell Hall in North Hollywood, the combo guard is starting his collegiate career away from home, contrary to what his older brother <strong>Bronny James </strong>did when he attended the University of Southern California.</p>



<p>As he prepares for his freshman year, James is making a solid impression during his first training sessions with the Wildcats. <p><strong>Cooper Flagg</strong> has long been taunted as the No. 1 overall pick of his draft class. After a single season with Duke, which prompted legendary coach Mike Krzyzewski to dub him the best freshman to ever play for the <strong>Blue Devils.</strong></p>



<p>There was a lot of speculation regarding Flagg’s future, as he admitted he would like to return to college for one more year in February. He made up his mind and decided to enter the draft. During an interview wit<strong>h Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated</strong>, Flagg opened up on the decision to start his professional career.</p>



<p><em><strong>“Was it obvious?”</strong></em> Flagg said.<em> “Yes and no. If somebody could tell me that I could have that group of people for another year and go back and have the exact same team, I would a 100% do it. But it’s just not reality and you can’t pass up on the opportunity. You just have to do what’s best for you and move on.”</em></p>



<p>The <strong>Utah Jazz, Charlotte Hornets and Philadelphia 76ers</strong> were mentioned as potential landing spots for Flagg, but after the lottery, the Dallas Mavericks are set to add the forward to their roster.</p>



<h2>Mike Krzyzewski has high expectations for Cooper Flagg</h2>



<p>As part of the impact that Mike Krzyzewski expects Cooper Flagg to make, the coach thinks he can lead a new era for American stars after international players such as <strong>Giannis Antetokounmpo, Nikola Jokic and Luka Doncic</strong> took over the league in recent years.</p>

<p><em>“One of the talks I had with a couple of owners was, ‘We need to have those American stars.’ You know we have a lot of international stars…Cooper can be that,</em>” Krzyzewski said, per Athlon Sports. <strong><em>“Cooper can be that. His future, hopefully, he stays hungry and healthy… His future will be incredible.”</em></strong></p>

<p><strong>AJ Dybantsa</strong> hasn’t played a single minute of <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball</a>. However, he’s already predicted to be the next big thing, not to mention the reason why everybody will be tuning in to watch BYU.</p>



<p>He’s excelled at youth levels for <strong>Team USA,</strong> and he was one of the players selected to attend their U19 camp, so he’s been on multiple teams’ radars for years now.</p>



<p>That’s why, knowing that it won’t be long before he takes his talents to the NBA, BYU coach <strong>Kevin Young </strong>has him watching film and studying three NBA All-Stars ahead of his freshman season.</p>



<h2>AJ Dybantsa studies Doncic, SGA, and KD</h2>



<p><em><strong>“Obviously, (Young) coached KD (Kevin Durant)… So, when I’m off the ball, a lot of KD,” </strong></em>Dybantsa said after Team USA practice<em>.<strong> “But there’s a lot of Shai (Gilgeous-Alexander). A lot of Luka (Doncic), guys that play multiple positions</strong></em><strong>.”</strong></p>

<p>Dybatnsa is <strong>6-foot-9 </strong>and still growing, so the fact that he’s studying two primary ball-handlers should be a scary thought for the NBA. He can be a truly positionless player.</p>

<p>More often than not, <strong>NBA</strong> players grew up being the best players on their teams. That was the case at all levels of youth basketball, and sometimes they were even the best player in their state.</p>



<p>A handful of them manage to retain that distinction once they make it to college. However, just an even smaller group of them is still the team’s <strong>best player once they turn pro.</strong></p>



<p>That wasn’t the case with<strong> JJ Redick,</strong> who was a superstar and one of the most popular players in <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball</a>. Then, he became a role player when he entered the NBA.</p>



<h2>JJ Redick admits he missed the attention from his college stardom</h2>



<p>Loved him or hated him, Redick was one of the most well-known young players in the world. That’s why, even though he was still living his lifelong dream of being an NBA player, <strong>he still missed the hype:</strong></p>



<p><strong>“<em>I’m not going to lie … I miss the attention sometimes,</em></strong><em> but you know what? I’m getting the chance to play basketball for a living. It’s hard to be down when you remind yourself about that,</em>” Redick told ESPN in 2006.</p>

<p>At the end of the day, being able to adapt, adjust, and embrace your role can make or break a player’s career, and all things considered, Redick had a pretty <strong>decent run in the NBA. </strong></p>

<p>Long before he set foot on a <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball</a> court, NBA scouts already talked about <strong>Cooper Flagg </strong>as the new big American hope. He could’ve sat out his freshman season at Duke, and he would’ve still been the No. 1 pick.</p>



<p>The Maine native went viral in high school because of his two-way dominance, and holding his own against NBA stars <strong>in a Team USA scrimmage</strong> may have sealed his fate.</p>



<p>Nevertheless, Flagg has always stood out. In a recent interview, his former coach, <strong>Andy Bedard</strong>, gushed about how, even as a third-grader, he already looked like a man among children. </p>



<h2>Cooper Flagg was ahead of his time</h2>



<p><strong><em>“Some kids that age, they can’t walk and chew gum,”</em></strong> Bedard told Sports Illustrated. <strong><em>“Cooper’s doing left-handed flip layups, 45-degree angles. He was so coordinated.</em></strong> <em>And if a teammate missed, he’d grab the rebound and let them shoot it again. He could dominate. He did dominate. But he played the right way.”</em></p>

<p>Flagg was fortunate enough to watch his body grow as much as his basketball IQ, and he continued to <strong>dominate at all levels. </strong>Now, he’s just days away from becoming an NBA player.</p>
