To say that Dan Hurley is a controversial figure would be a huge understatement. While he has the accolades and stripes to have plenty of fans in <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball</a>, he also has his fair share of detractors.



Hurley’s volatile temper, controversial statements, and overall demeanor have rubbed plenty of people the wrong way, especially after such a complicated season.



Nevertheless, as much as the analysts and the media don’t seem to love him, former UConn guard Cam Spencer had nothing but praise for his former head coach.

“There’s not a college coach that puts more into his team and helping his players, you know, both on and off the court,” Spencer said on the Young Man and the Three. “I mean, the intensity level that he brought every day in practice, you know, was even worse than what you see on the sidelines and in the game. So I think you see that in how his players play for him, how his coaches coach for him. Like he truly does, give everything he has to that program.”

The young Detroit Pistons guard didn’t spend much time at UConn, but he thrived and averaged 14.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 3.6 assists while shooting 44 percent from behind the arc and 48 percent from the floor in his season there.

He even won a national championship there, so it’s easy to understand why he thinks so highly of his coach. Also, whether you like him or not, no one can take anything away from him.

Even though the Rutgers Scarlet Knights were one of the most disappointing teams in all of <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball </a>last season, star PG/SG Dylan Harper lived up to the hype.



He spent most of the season as the second-best prospect behind only Cooper Flagg, and not even an injury and failing to make the NCAA Tournament was enough to change that.



Notably, that’s why NBA Draft expert Jonathan Givony believes that Gregg Popovich won’t hesitate to take him with the No. 2 pick and pair him with Victor Wembanyama, even if they already have De’Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle.

Of course, the Spurs’ backcourt logjam will be a subject of debate, as they could perhaps go with another player who’s a better fit next to Fox and Castle. Then again, Harper is just too good and too NBA-ready to pass on.

Notably, that’s why it’s not much of a surprise to see her add another major brand to her impressive NIL portfolio, recently announcing a partnership with Pottery Barn Teen.

That’s partially because of their unmatched ability to recruit the top prospects in the nation, and partially because of their dominance during the Mike Krzyzewski era.



That’s why it wasn’t easy to step into his shoes and replace him when he left the program. With that in mind, the legendary coach tipped his hat to Jon Scheyer for the job he’s done there.

“Yeah, you’re getting older teams the influx of international, young, international pro players to college, there you can win quicker in college now, and Jon Scheyer has done a great job here at Duke replacing me,” Coach K said. “And I’ve told him, I said, ‘I think you’ve done a better job than I would have done in the last three years with all the changes, because I would have always been saying stuff.”

Scheyer has yet to lead the team to a national championship, something his legendary predecessor did five times throughout the course of his 42 years with the program.

Of course, he’s just getting started, and there will be a growing process. But so far, it’s safe to say that Scheyer has gotten off to a more-than-decent start to his head coaching tenure in Durham.

Azzi Fudd and the UConn Huskies are at the top of the world right now. They reclaimed their spot atop the women’s <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball </a>scene by winning their 12th national championship.



Fudd was instrumental in helping coach Geno Auriemma bring the trophy home for the first time since 2016 to end one of the program’s most notorious championship droughts.



However, it wasn’t always easy. That’s why she teamed up with The Kevin Love Foundation to try and inspire other young students and athletes and get them to care about their mental health. 



<h2>Azzi Fudd highlights the importance of mental health</h2>



“During a long season, I take care of my mental health by, one, surrounding myself with people who are going to push me, help me through the tough times,” Fudd said. “Two, talking to someone… It took me a long time to figure that out, but it was my first time doing that this year, and I think it helped tremendously. I wouldn’t have been as mentally stable as I have been. And then three, finding time to do little things that you enjoy. Whether taking a walk, listening to your favorite song, cooking something, having a sweet treat. Whatever it is, having that little thing that just brings you joy.”

With Paige Bueckers now gone to the WNBA, Fudd will have to do plenty of heavy lifting for Geno Auriemma’s team, and she will be in the eye of the storm as well.

For most of the process, that distinction belonged to BYU’s AJ Dybantsa.



However, with Cameron Boozer and Darryn Peterson now bursting onto the scene, that may no longer be the case. With that in mind, NCAA analyst Rob Dauster chose Peterson over the rest of the field:



“I think it’s going to be Darryn Peterson. It’s very clear this year that Cooper Flag has to be the number one pick right and I don’t think it’s going to be at the same level. Like I don’t think we’re going to be saying this is the Darryn Peterson draft,” Dauster said on ‘The Field of 68: After Dark.’



<h2>NCAA Analyst makes bold prediction about the 2026 NBA Draft</h2>



Even so, the renowned analyst doesn’t think there will be a clear-cut candidate. He thinks that people will debate and weigh in on all the options until the very day of the NBA Draft.

“I think it’s going to be similar to like you know 2021 when it was what was Anthony Edwards, LaMelo Ball at the top of the draft and everyone was like “Yeah you you probably have to take Anthony Edwards number one. But it wasn’t like this obvious thing where it was a no-brainer where you spend the entire time you’re tanking for Darryn Peterson,” he added.

At the end of the day, it’s still pretty early to tell. But judging by the footage and their track record, it seems like teams can’t go wrong with whoever they decide to roll.

For more than four decades, Mike ‘Coach K’ Krzyzewski made sure to keep the Duke Blue Devils either at the top of the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball</a> scene or pretty close to it.



However, Father Time spares no victims, and with the college sports scene transitioning towards a new era, the legendary coach knew it was time to step down.



That’s why he left the program after 42 years and five national championships. Now, years after his departure, he opened up on how much he dislikes the current state of affairs.



<h2>Coach K says NCAA is now run like a business</h2>



“I think college basketball now is pretty much like the NBA, except there’s no transparency,” Krzyzewski said on ‘The Herd’. “In other words, you’re at one school, I’m at another. I don’t know what you’re doing for a player. You don’t know what I’m doing for a player, and it’s really professional right now, or college basketball, but the product is outstanding, and kids are staying longer because of NIL.”

Of course, it only makes sense that the players get paid for the hard job they’re putting in and what they’re putting their bodies through. It wasn’t fair that only the NCAA got to profit (at least legally or publicly) from it.

At the end of the day, you have to adapt or perish, and programs like Duke will never find much trouble finding the resources or convincing players to join them in Durham.

However, they won’t have their best player. Paige Bueckers, one of the greatest players in program history, took his talents to the Dallas Wings as the No. 1 pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft.



Now, the word around the college scene is that Geno Auriemma is eyeing USC’s Kayleigh Heckel as her potential replacement. NCAA analyst Tee Baker, however, isn’t so sure about that.

“In the backcourt, it’s just who is going to be that point guard?” Baker said on the ‘Big East Energy’ podcast. “Is it KK Arnold? Can she step into that role of steady hand, or is she more of a threat off the bench? Will someone like Kayleigh Heckel commit to UConn and be that true point guard?”

According to reports from Rob Reinhart, Golden’s Florida is signing Arkansas transfer Boogie Fland off the portal. Fland was one of the most productive players in Calipari’s team during the 2024-25 campaign.

There’s plenty of uncertainty in New Orleans right now. Zion Williamson could be on his way out, and there are also rumors about them making a run at Giannis Antetokounmpo.

As things stand now, Knueppel is projected to fall just outside of the top five. But if this prediction comes to fruition, he could go to the Dallas Mavericks, San Antonio Spurs, Philadelphia 76ers, Charlotte Hornets, or Utah Jazz.

Cameron is one of the highest-ranked players entering <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball </a>right now. Standing at 6-foot-9, he’s a strong candidate to be a one-and-done guy and take his talents to the NBA. And according to Adam Finkelstein of 247 Sports, he’s similar to Al Horford.

Granted, Horford was a top-ten NBA Draft selection at the time, and there’s plenty to like about his game as a serviceable veteran and one of the most underrated players of his generation.

Flagg is the consensus clear-cut No. 1 selection. However, as good a prospect as he is, NBA analyst Jay Williams believes the team should look to trade that selection instead.

Williams’ hot makes sense to a degree, and sometimes, a team can be better off moving on from the first-overall pick. This time, however, that might not be the case at all.

“I was devastated when Travis [Perry] left, mostly because I think he is such a special young man,” Mark Pope said, per KSR’s Mario Maitland. “It was devastating to me, personally, because I enjoyed coaching him so much, and I think he has a brilliant upside. I think he was on his way to becoming a legend here at Kentucky.”

<h2>Oxford-bound</h2>



Perry entered the program with sky-high expectations. He attended high school in Lyon County, Kentucky, where he became the all-time leading high school basketball scorer in The Bluegrass State.



Although he was expected to play limited minutes during his freshman year, injuries led to Perry seeing a bigger role in his first <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball">college basketball</a> season under Pope’s guidance.

The 20-year-old, then 19, finished the year with 31 appearances, including four starts. Moreover, he averaged 2.7 points, 0.8 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game, according to On3. The fans, players, and coaches were all excited for Perry’s sophomore year, but the latter opted to enroll at <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/ole-miss">Ole Miss</a>, where Chris Beard will more than gladly have him on board.
