Dylan Harper, son of NBA legend Ron Harper, is on his way to the NBA after a single season with the Rutgers Scarlett Knights. The young guard was one of the most sought-after prospects coming out of high school with teammate Ace Bailey.&nbsp;



Both players joined Steve Pikiell’s team ahead of the 2024-25 season. They finished with a 15-17 overall record (8-12 in the Big Ten), finishing their season with a 97-89 double overtime loss to the USC Trojans in the first round of their conference tournament.&nbsp;



Harper finished his season playing 46 minutes, scoring 27 points, grabbing eight rebounds, dishing out eight assists, stealing two balls and blocking two shots. Overall, he averaged 19.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.4 steals per game, shooting 48.4% from the field, 33.3% from deep and 75% from the free-throw line.



<h2>Brooklyn Nets reportedly unlikely to trade up for Dylan Harper&nbsp;</h2>



Ahead of the 2025 NBA Draft, Harper has been linked with the Brooklyn Nets, a team with a young core hungry to make it to the next level. They currently have the No. 8 overall pick, but it’s unlikely that they trade up to take the No. 2 selection to pick Harper.

Brian Lewis of the New York Post reported on Tuesday that the possibility is off the table.&nbsp;



“Unlikely. Matter of fact I might even go highly unlikely,” Lewis said. “That’s from multiple sources. You never say never, but I think that’s something that I wouldn’t count on seeing happening. Trading up? Maybe. And I’m sure they’d love to have Dylan Harper, but the odds of him landing here in Brooklyn, not very good.”

Flagg averaged 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.4 blocks and 1.4 steals for the team that made it all the way to the NCAA tournament’s Final Four before the Houston Cougars stopped them in the semifinals.



Before becoming a major sensation in the world of basketball, Cooper Flagg was just another kid with a dream. He didn’t always have people backing him, but that didn’t stop him.&nbsp;

“Growing up in Maine, there’s people that told me I would never be able to make it to the next level or play Division I basketball because I’m from Maine and nobody plays up there,” Flagg said. “I think just that message of it doesn’t matter where you’re from, as long as you work hard and trust yourself and trust your ability, then you can really accomplish anything.”

Goodman noted the similarities between the Boozers and the guard and center who led the Buckeyes to the NCAA championship game in 2006, even in the way they handled themselves and the attention they attracted.&nbsp;



“They are special,” he said. “I said this about my comparison to John yesterday – Mike Conley to Cayden. But they’re different players. Nobody thought he’d (Conley) be a one-and-done and they’re different because Conley had blazing speed.”



“But more the fact that Conley played in Oden’s shadow,” Goodman added. “He came in and nobody … he was kind of the sidekick. It’s the same thing with Cayden to Cam; he’s kind of in the shadow there. Everybody talks about Cam being a double-double machine, which he is. Cayden’s really, really good.”

It’s impossible to talk about the South Carolina Gamecocks without talking about Dawn Staley. She’s poured her soul and character into that program, and it’s now an extension of herself.



However, things could’ve been very different. Back in 2005, when she was coaching a Temple Owls team that would eventually go undefeated, she was a sought-after commodity in the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball</a> scene.



Apparently, she was pretty close to joining the SEC earlier than she did, as the Alabama Crimson Tide wanted her to take the reins of their program two decades ago. 



<h2>Dawn Staley almost coached Alabama</h2>



“Alabama came after me first in 2005,” Staley wrote in her “Uncommon Favor” book. “I visited the campus. I liked the athletic director. But I couldn’t see myself living in Alabama.”

Fortunately for Gamecocks fans, she eventually chose to stay at Temple for another three years before eventually heading back to South Carolina, where her family was from:



“I was drawn to the fact that USC was part of the SEC and its storied legacy in women’s basketball,” the coach continued. “Pat Summitt was in this league, Andy Landers, Melanie Balcomb, all these legendary coaches. I was looking to refine my skills, rise to compete with the best. The cherry on top was that my parents were originally from South Carolina.”

Ultimately, Staley took the reins of the program and turned it into an absolute powerhouse. Multiple NCAA championships later, the rest is history, and she will go down as the greatest coach in Gamecocks’ history.

However, as good as Flagg was, he also had plenty of help, starting with Kon Knueppel. That’s why the sharpshooting wing has also been penciled in as a top-ten or maybe even top-five NBA Draft pick.



Nevertheless, John Hollinger of The Athletic reported that some scouts weren’t as high on Knueppel after the NBA Draft Combine, as he turned out to be a little shorter than expected. 



<h2>Kon Knueppel’s measurements could hurt his draft stock</h2>



“Duke wing Kon Knueppel measured a bit smaller than expected at 6-5 in socks — he was listed at 6-7 — and that may cause teams to reevaluate him as a one-position guard rather than a true wing. Knueppel sat out the shooting drills and athletic testing with an injury,” wrote Hollinger.

Of course, at the end of the day, scouts often overlook those minor red flags when the talent is there, and Knueppel’s skills and impact have never been doubted.

With all due respect, the BYU Cougars have never been known for being much of a powerhouse. They’re not the most prominent program in <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball</a> by any means.



That’s why it was somewhat surprising to see them land AJ Dybantsa, the most sought-after recruit in his class, especially considering some of the schools that were also keeping tabs on him.



With that in mind, the projected first-overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft got brutally honest and shared his reasoning for committing to playing for the Cougars, and it wasn’t about money.



<h2>AJ Dybantsa reveals why he chose the Cougars</h2>



“Yeah, like a family atmosphere on and off the court from a campus standpoint,” he said. “I want a great development coach who can improve my skillset, IQ, everything. Strength program got to be on point. There’s a lot of things that went into it.”

Dybantsa has excelled with Team USA at the youth levels, and some scouts argued that he would’ve given Cooper Flagg a run for his money as the first pick if he were eligible to enter this year’s draft.

Flagg’s ability to stretch the floor with his shooting and protect the rim with his defense makes him a unique player. He’s like a guard trapped in a seven-footer’s body.



Nevertheless, as impressive as his game and measurements are, former NBA champion Tony Allen still isn’t buying the hype. Instead, he thinks he will be a very good role player.

Of course, projections are only that, and it’s up to the players to prove their worth. Also, countless factors, such as health, coaching, and even luck, can make or break a player’s career.

The veteran point guard will now be a free agent, and he’s right there in Texas, as he played for the San Antonio Spurs. With Kyrie Irving likely out for the season, he’s a cheap stopgap at the position.

However, in order to witness better results than this past campaign, they will need some players to step up and fill in for key departures from several senior leaders. That’s the case for Brandon Garrison, who has big expectations set by Pope.



The Wildcats are determined to avenge their disheartening 78-65 defeat against the Tennessee Volunteers in the Sweet Sixteen stage of March Madness. Of course, it will be a tall order for Pope’s Kentucky, and one that’s way easier said than accomplished in such a competitive <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/ncaa">NCAA</a> environment.



Regardless, the Wildcats are riding high spirits as they prepare for the upcoming college basketball season, in which they’ll be put through a litmus test in the SEC night in and night out.

Pope certainly believes so, as he voiced a firm six-word statement to the junior guard, who is entering his second year in Kentucky after transferring from Oklahoma State.

He’s been working really hard, and his job now as a returning player is to come teach all the other guys — whether they’re more senior than him or not, he’s one of our few returning guys that knows what we do, knows how we do it, knows the expectation, knows the standard.“



<h2>Gaining confidence</h2>



Garrison appeared in 35 games during his first season in Lexington, and as he slowly acclimated to Pope’s system in the Bluegrass State, he showed great signs of growth and leadership, which the 52-year-old bench boss found commendable.



“It was really fun in the last month of the season to see him start to take on some leadership role, even with the veteran-laden team that we had last year. You started to hear his voice more,” Pope admitted. “You started to feel his intensity a little bit more. He’s changed, like he’s grown. It’s been awesome.”

Garrison finished the season with an average of 17.3 minutes played every night, registering 5.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.9 assists. His field goal percentage was of 50.9, which ranked third-best on the team.

While injuries prevented them from dominating together for a long time, Azzi Fudd and Paige Bueckers spent three full seasons together with the UConn Huskies.



They finally got over the hump in 2025, leading Geno Auriemma’s team to the National Championship and giving us a glimpse of what it could’ve been like if they had stayed healthy for those three years.



As such, and given their close friendship, it’s safe to say that few people know Bueckers better than Fudd. That’s why, while in attendance at the Dallas Wings-Atlanta Dream game, she shed light on the most underrated aspect of her game.

“I feel like Paige is a sneaky good defender,” Fudd told CBS Sports. “I also think she’s an incredible passer, and I feel like that’s something that was kind of looked over a little bit last year. These last couple of games, she had what, 10 assists last game, I think? To see her facilitate like she can, it’s going to be fun.”

The Wings are struggling as expected, going 0-4 to start the season. Bueckers, however, has been unfazed by the pros, averaging 19.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game on 53% shooting and 41% from three.

Cameron, a five-star power forward, is currently the third-ranked prospect in the nation behind only BYU’s AJ Dybantsa and Kansas’ Darryn Peterson. His brother, a point guard, is No. 16.

Notre Dame star point guard Hannah Hidalgo didn’t need much time to prove that she was a special player. Some might even go as far as to call her a generational player.



She’s coming off an outstanding <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball </a>season in which he showed her defensive and offensive prowess, and while the ending was disappointing, it was hard to put the blame on her.



That’s why, now that she’s about to enter her third season in college, Notre Dame coach Niele Ivey predicted that her star guard will one day be the face of women’s basketball, even ahead of Caitlin Clark.

“Coming off an incredible sophomore year. Yeah, she’s just ready for it. I’m excited that she’s going to be the face of women’s basketball,” Ivey said. “But she’s earned it and deserves it.”

Needless to say, that’s a bold statement, even for a player as talented as Hidalgo. Given her controversial and conservative remarks, it’s hard to envision that happening.

Of course, she could definitely be that kind of player from a basketball standpoint, but she might not be the most marketable or popular player in a league with a huge LGBT fan base and pool of players.
