Dawn Staley responds to Magic Johnson’s shoutout

Dawn Staley and NBA legend Magic Johnson had a special moment on X after the legendary coach gifted the five-time NBA champion a copy of her book, “Uncommon Favor.”

Staley is already a legend of the game, having led the South Carolina Gamecocks women’s team to multiple championships, including full seasons without a single defeat on their record and running through some remarkable names. 

After leading the Gamecocks to another national championship game in 2024-25, Staley stayed away from the court to reflect and prepare for the 2025-26 season. Meanwhile, she released her book, which drew a lot of attention within the basketball world.

Magic Johnson took to social media to thank Staley for the book, wishing her positive things and thanking her for being a positive presence.

“Thank you Coach @dawnstaley for gifting me a copy of your new book Uncommon Favor! Congratulations and keep blessing the world.”

This wasn’t the end of the situation, as Staley responded to the Michigan State Spartans legend and superfan. She took to social media, too, to respond to Johnson. 

“It’s all love Magic!! Thank you for your leadership in every space you have touch! Keep leading! Keep smiling! Keep being magically you!!!” she wrote.
