Aaron Boone’s start to the 2025 MLB season hasn’t been smooth. The New York Yankees are navigating a wave of injuries, and despite holding a 19–14 record, the fan base has taken to social media to voice concerns about the team’s situation. Now, with another key Aaron Judge‘s teammate sidelined, Boone may have to adjust his lineup once again.
Despite the recent setbacks, the Yankees remain atop the AL East, thanks in large part to a strong start to the season. But with the Boston Red Sox just three games back, all eyes are on this weekend’s series against the Tampa Bay Rays to see if New York can maintain the advantage in the standings.
With the division lead at stake, Boone and team captain Judge continue pushing to keep momentum on their side. However, Boone confirmed that Jazz Chisholm Jr. will miss the series finale against Tampa Bay, adding another hurdle for the Yankees to overcome.
“I expect Jazz [Chisholm Jr.] to be out four to six weeks,” Boone told reporters after Saturday’s tough loss to the Rays. With Chisholm sidelined, the Yankees’ manager will need to turn to the bench for solutions, even as Judge continues to shine early in the regular season.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. reacts to injury setback
After Yankees head coach Boone confirmed Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s injury, the outfielder shared his thoughts on the unexpected development. Chisholm initially played down concerns following his early exit against the Baltimore Orioles, but he admitted he was caught off guard by the recovery timeline.

Following Saturday’s game, Chisholm Jr. addressed reporters and reflected on the injury that’s sidelining him during the regular season. “I’m very surprised [by the results], just depending on how my body feels and how I feel personally,” he said after the Yankees’ tough loss.
He added, “This is the second time I’ve had an oblique injury. It feels completely different from the first one. So, for me, I was really surprised when I saw the results.”
Boone praises Ryan Yarbrough after key outing
Boone also took time to praise pitcher Ryan Yarbrough, one of Aaron Judge’s key teammates. Despite some control issues on the mound, Boone highlighted Yarbrough’s value to the Yankees after his performance against the Rays.
“I thought he did great,” Boone said. “Walked a couple of leadoff hitters, which wasn’t ideal—had a few walks in there. But going into the day, if you said four innings, one run? Sign us up, all day long. He gave us exactly what we needed. Gave us a chance and put us in a good position to win a game. Unfortunately, we just couldn’t get to the finish line today.“
