Amed Rosario breaks silence on return to New York to join Yankees despite starting career with Mets

Now as a member of the New York Yankees, Amed Rosario felt the need to clarify what it means to return to New York—but not to suit up for the Mets, the team where he originally broke into the majors.

Amed Rosario is now officially a member of the New York Yankees after appearing in 46 games for the Nationals during the first half of the current season. The former New York Mets recently opened up about what it means to return to the city where he made his MLB debut.

“There’s a saying in Spanish that a good son always comes back home,” Rosario told reporters. “So I’m very happy for this opportunity that the Yankees are offering me, and I’m excited to be back.”

Rosario debuted in 2017 with the New York Mets and spent four seasons with them through 2020, though he never made a postseason appearance during that time. Since 2023, Rosario has struggled to find long-term stability, having been traded multiple times across several teams.

What position will Rosario play with the Yankees?

The Yankees haven’t confirmed Rosario’s role on the field, but there’s a strong possibility he could be used at third or second base—at least that’s what manager Aaron Boone has hinted.

“Aaron Boone said he views Amed Rosario as an option at 3B or 2B and the corner outfield spots. Said they could use him at SS in a pinch, but hasn’t played there in a while,” Greg Joyce reported on X.

If Rosario sees time at shortstop, it could give Anthony Volpe a chance to rest. The young shortstop has shown better production at the plate when he’s had occasional time off, so Rosario’s versatility could help Boone manage the roster more effectively.
