Carlos Mendoza delivers blunt assessment of Mets amid rough stretch

The first person to admit that things aren't going well is Carlos Mendoza, who is watching the New York Mets continue to slide and had to tell the raw truth about the team’s reality.

Carlos Mendoza didn’t mince words when assessing the New York Mets’ current state. The first-year skipper acknowledged the team’s struggles while insisting there’s still plenty of talent in the clubhouse to turn things around.

Mendoza admitted his club hasn’t been able to put all the pieces together at the same time, a frustration that’s been evident during their recent slide. His latest comments offered a candid glimpse into the challenge the Mets face and the urgency to solve it fast.

We’re not playing well. But too much talent. We’re going through a very tough time right now but there’s a lot of good players there. We haven’t played well but we’re still pretty much right in the thick of things. We gotta find a way”

Mendoza and the Mets’ Mound Problems

Another very important issue that Mendoza had to address and tell the truth about was how poorly the Mets have been performing on the mound, which is more than evident given they have been unable to slow down MLB opponents in August, losing 10 of 12 games.

In the most recent game against the Braves, which they unfortunately lost again, Ryan Helsley was on the mound for the second time in August. They lost again, and his fastball wasn’t working as it should. Mendoza simply said, “This guy’s elite, we’ve just got to get him back on track.”

Helsley himself admitted that he isn’t doing well at all. “Trying to figure out that role and that routine to be ready when my name is called. I just haven’t been good.” Other teammates, like Francisco Lindor, see the team’s current situation as a test. “It’s definitely a test. It’s a test that we’re going through. It’s big adversity.”
