Garrett Crochet sends clear message on Red Sox mindset ahead of trade deadline

Like many teams around MLB, the Boston Red Sox are expected to be active at the trade deadline — but Garrett Crochet made it clear how he feels about whether those moves are truly necessary for a postseason run.

Garrett Crochet has been doing his part on the mound, helping the Boston Red Sox go as far as possible with the pieces currently in place — and that’s exactly what he pointed to when asked about potential additions at the trade deadline.

According to Crochet, the Red Sox, as currently constructed, have more than enough to make a deep run. There’s no urgent need for a major shakeup or splashy additions, but he said any reinforcements would still be welcome.

“I think that in the clubhouse, we feel comfortable with what we’ve got being able to make it deep into the postseason. But additions would be welcomed as well,” said Crochet, who holds a 12-4 record with a 2.23 ERA and has already established himself as a dominant force in his first season with Boston.

Red Sox Mentality Won’t Change Regardless of Deadline Moves

Crochet made it clear that whether or not the Red Sox make moves at the deadline, the mindset in the clubhouse won’t change. The team is locked in on going deep into October, and the belief inside the locker room remains strong.

“I think right now, we’re just in a position where — let’s play as well as we can up to that point, but we’re not gonna stop there. Regardless of what we do at the deadline, it’s not gonna change the mentality of the guys in that clubhouse.”

Red Sox Rotation Still Needs Help

Despite Crochet’s confidence in the current group, the need for help in the rotation is apparent. He’s the only Red Sox starter with more than ten wins, while the next most consistent arm, Lucas Giolito, sits at 6-2.
