Jazz Chisholm Jr. breaks silence on move to 3B with Yankees

Back at third base—the position where Jazz Chisholm Jr. looked solid last season—there’s a special reason behind the New York Yankees' decision to move him there again, and it’s one he recently shared.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. is set to return to third base with the New York Yankees. His recent stint at second base was brief at the start of the current season, as he had been recovering from injury and was nearing a return. Now, he’ll be rejoining the infield—but at a different position.

In recent comments, Chisholm Jr. revealed that he was given the option to play either second or third base with the Yankees. Ultimately, it was manager Aaron Boone who asked him to return to third.

“[Boone] told me that he wanted me at 3B. He really wanted me at 3B. I’m a team guy, I’m here to win a ring, I’m not here to fight over positions,” Chisholm Jr. said. He could be back with the team soon, with only a couple of rehab games remaining.

His comments reflect an understanding that second base is currently being handled by DJ LeMahieu, who has been performing well for the Yankees in that position.

More Reinforcements on the Way for Yankees

Chisholm Jr. isn’t the only Yankee nearing a return. Four other players—Roderick Arias, Jayvien Sandridge, Fernando Cruz, and Giancarlo Stanton—could be back between May 31 and June 3, according to ESPN’s injury report and estimated return dates.
