The shortened 2020 MLB season came to the same end for the New York Yankees as the prior 10. They enter the campaign with an overpowered roster and high hopes and expectations and then fall short of winning anotherWorld Series because of their pitching woes.
That’s why General Manager Brian Cashman acknowledged that they have to improve that situation going forward, especially considering Masahiro Tanaka and James Paxton are set to hit free agency.
And with names like Trevor Bauer and Taljuan Walker looming around, Marcus Stroman recently took to Twitter to point out that he’d be the best available choice for the Pinstripers in free agency, letting them know that he’s just a phone call away.
Marcus Stroman Says He’d Be The Perfect Third Starter For The New York Yankees
“Besides [Gerrit] Cole, there’s no current yankee pitcher who will be anywhere in my league over the next 5-7 years,’’ Stroman said. “Their pitching always folds in the end. That lineup and payroll should be winning World Series’ left and right … yet they’re in a drought! Lol.”
Then, the former Blue Jay remembered injured star Luis Severino, adding that he loves his stuff and that he’d be the third-best pitcher in the Yankees’ rotation because James Paxton’s lack of durability is also a big problem.
“Forgot about [Severino]! When he’s healthy, he’s unreal. One of my favorites to watch. Cole and Severino. There’s still [three] spots in the staff that need help. Am I wrong?” the 29-year-old added.
Stroman Says He Doesn’t Hold Grudges Towards The Yankees And Is Open To Playing For Them
“I don’t hold grudges ever. I’m open to compete wherever next year. Excited to see how free agency plays out!” the outspoken pitcher concluded, referring to Brian Cashman’s comments of him not being a difference-maker.
“We were interested in Stroman but we didn’t think he would be a difference-maker. We felt he would be in our bullpen in the postseason,” Cashman said after the trade deadline in 2019. Now, ironically, he seems like one of the best options for the Bronx Bombers. Otherwise, they’d have to lean towards Deivi García, Domingo Germán, Michael King, and Clarke Schmidt for the final rotation spots.
