Pete Alonso continues to play a pivotal role in the New York Mets’ resurgence, helping the team secure its 20th win of the 2025 MLB regular season. After a shaky start, the Mets have found their rhythm and are quickly becoming one of the most competitive teams heading into the next stretch of games.
With a long season still ahead, the Mets are thinking long term and have already begun making strategic roster adjustments. Ahead of their upcoming matchup against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday, the front office announced a series of moves aimed at reinforcing the roster.
Among the changes, left-handed pitcher Sean Manaea was officially placed on the 60-day injured list. Manaea, who signed a contract extension with the Mets earlier this year, suffered an injury prior to Opening Day and will now need additional time to recover.
“LHP Sean Manaea has been transferred to the 60-day IL,” the team announced on X. With Manaea sidelined, manager Carlos Mendoza is expected to explore other options for the rotation. Griffin Canning, Tylor Megill, and José Butto are among the pitchers who could step up to fill the gap.

Other Mets roster moves ahead of upcoming games
In addition to the update on Manaea, the Mets made several other roster changes. Right-hander Kevin Herget signed a one-year deal with a club option for 2026 and is expected to join the bullpen. Meanwhile, veteran reliever Brooks Raley was recalled from Triple-A and will wear No. 57 as he reenters the Major League roster.

On the other end, pitcher Jose Ureña was designated for assignment. Despite recording three strikeouts in his latest outing, surrendering seven runs may have ultimately led the coaching staff to make the call.
Manager Mendoza shares more bad news
As if the Manaea injury update wasn’t enough for Mets fans, manager Carlos Mendoza delivered another setback ahead of the team’s game against the Diamondbacks. Outfielder Brandon Nimmo, one of the standouts in the recent win over the Nationals, has been ruled out with the flu.
“He’s sick today. He’s in great shape otherwise, but he has a flu—or whatever you want to call it. He has a fever and feels pretty weak. He’s undergoing treatment right now,“ Mendoza told reporters during his pregame media availability.
