While Brandon Nimmo might not be the New York Mets‘ most consistent hitter, his relentless effort at the plate is undeniable, exemplified in their recent 19-5 rout of the Nationals where he drove in the lion’s share of the runs.

Despite entering the game batting under .200, Brandon Nimmo etched his name in baseball history. He’s now only the second player since 1920 with 9+ RBI in a game from the 6th inning onward, a feat matched only by Mike Moustakas in 2015. Adding to the rarity, Nimmo joins another teammate as the sole Mets players to achieve a 9-RBI game.

Key moments in Nimmo’s standout performance included a solo home run in the top of the 6th inning, extending the Mets’ lead to 6-0. He continued his offensive explosion in the following inning with a grand slam, bringing in Soto, Alonso, and Winker to score in a fantastic display of power hitting.

While Juan Soto‘s start with the Yankees hasn’t matched his usual explosive pace, Brandon Nimmo’s bat has been surprisingly potent for the Mets. Nimmo currently boasts 21 RBIs, ranking second in the team behind Pete Alonso’s 27, outperforming Soto’s 12 RBIs.

Two Mets with the same RBI record

It’s worth noting that Nimmo now shares a special place in Mets history. He joins Carlos Delgado as the only two players in franchise history to record a 9-RBI game, a feat Delgado accomplished back in the 2008 season during an memorable contest against the New York Yankees.
