New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone was at the center of controversy following the team’s recent two-game sweep by the Texas Rangers. With the Yankees trailing 0-2 in the series, the fan base is experiencing growing frustration over the team’s underwhelming start this August. Boone’s roster management decisions, in particular, have drawn significant ire from supporters.

While players are often held accountable for a franchise’s loss on the field, there are times when the focus shifts to the manager’s strategic decisions, or lack thereof. Fans have taken to social media to debate Boone’s choices, particularly criticizing his roster adjustments, or absence thereof, during these critical games.

In Tuesday’s matchup against the Rangers, Boone opted to send Devin Williams to the mound once again, despite Williams’ underperformance in Monday’s series opener. However, the most contentious issue was the continued sidelining of Mark Leiter Jr., who remained in the bullpen much to the dismay of the fan base.

Yankees fans had anticipated that with Leiter Jr. back, he would be included in the lineup. Boone, however, defended his decision post-game as fans continued to voice their displeasure.

ā€œWe don’t have a lot left down there, Leiter being in a situation where he obviously hasn’t pitched in a while. If I could get it to a four-out scenario, I was going to do it. I thought Devin could still get some swing and miss there, but obviously didn’t,ā€ Boone explained to the media after the team’s loss to the Rangers.

Why are fans upset with Boone’s remarks?

Fans have taken to social media in response to Boone’s comments about not fielding Leiter Jr., citing the player’s lack of recent play as the reason. However, supporters are quick to point out that in Game 1 of the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Boone didn’t hesitate to field a player in a similar situation as Leiter Jr.

While the context of the prior instance differed, with the team vying for a championship title, the skepticism of fans emerges from Boone’s decision during a regular season game against the Rangers, a game crucial for playoff contention. As a result, Boone’s comments have sparked significant debate among the fan base.

Yankees fans launch campaign for Boone’s departure

Despite previous successes under his management, a faction of Yankees fans has initiated a campaign for Boone’s dismissal. An image circulating on social media denotes a date, August 12th, for Boone to step down as head coach. This reflects the growing discontent among the fan base, who, despite recognizing Boone’s past achievements, are eager for change.
