Brandon Ingram is now blossoming as one of the league’s most promising players. The up-and-coming New Orleans Pelicans have made him the focalpoint of their offense and he’s lived up to that responsibility in a big way.
But if you follow the NBA, you must know that he wasn’t always like that. In fact, some people called him a bust when he was playing for the Los Angeles Lakers, as his confidence was off and he just couldn’t take that leap forward.
And now that Ingram is playing for a different franchise and can finally open up on what truly happened during his time with the purple-and-gold, he had quite a telling interview for JJ Redick’s podcast ‘The Old Man and the Three’.
Brandon Ingram Says The Anthony Davis Trade Saga ‘Killed’ The Lakers’ Young Core
Ingram started by revealing how difficult it was for the Lakers’ young core to deal with the never-ending Anthony Davis trade saga and rumors involving them, claiming that it pretty much ‘killed them’:
“I know other guys around me, it killed them every day. When you wake up and you see your name on Twitter, and the guys around me, they love Twitter. They love searching, putting in their names,” Ingram said.
The Lakers traded away Lonzo Ball, Josh Hart, and Brandon Ingram to the Pelicans and were pretty close to dealing Kyle Kuzma as well. At the end of the day, it worked out pretty well for everybody involved, as they went on to win the ring and their youngsters flourished under less pressure.
Brandon Ingram Admits He Felt Uncomfortable With The Lakers
Playing for the Lakers is something not every guy can handle, especially at such a young age and with that many expectations around you, and Ingram had to learn that the hard way, according to his own words:
“I definitely felt very uncomfortable. It was different. I didn’t know what I was stepping into actually. It was kind of like the world came when you were going to the Lakers. My social media started blowing up. I was into social media, but then I had to step into reality,” Ingram confessed.
“I go into my first game, everybody knows who I am around L.A. It was just totally different. It’s different when it’s Laker love. You know you can get soaked up into the game of basketball or you can get soaked up into everything else that is around it in Los Angeles. It was important for me to just focus on basketball,” he concluded.
It’s not often that you see a trade that works out perfectly for everybody involved but this time that seems to be the case. Now, Ingram will look to continue his development as one of the league’s rising stars.
