You know what they say: New season, same-ole Bucks. Or well, at least that’s what it seemed when the Milwaukee Bucks once again let a big lead slip right through their fingers and couldn’t get the job done when it mattered the most.
The Bucks traveled to the TD Garden to take on the Boston Celticsfor their season opener, and even though it promised to be the closest and most unpredictable game of the schedule, Milwaukee was in complete control of it for most of the first half.
During the final 24 minutes,Brad Stevens’ team made key adjustments on defense and Mike Budenholzer’s hands were tied – again. Boston capped on their comeback thanks to an ice-cold bucket by Jayson Tatum that gave them a 2-point lead with under a second to play.
Then, Milwaukee would have a huge chance to tie the game and send it to overtime after Tristan Thompson was called for a questionable foul on Giannis Antetokounmpo as the clock expired. They put the Greek Freak in the line, and he botched the potential game-tying freebie.
Needless to say, the internet didn’t waste a single second before slandering the reigning back-to-back MVP and Defensive Player of the Year, who’s earning a reputation of being a bit of a choker. Check out the funniest memes and reactions here.

At the end of the day, this might as well be considered an extended preseason. It’s clear that most players still need more time to get the legs back under them, and the reigning MVP isn’t the exception to that rule.
Then again, Giannis’ underperformances in key moments are starting to become a worrying trend, especially considering the Bucks recently signed him to the largest deal in basketball history.
