How many NBA championships had LeBron James, Stephen Curry won at Anthony Edwards’ age?

The Minnesota Timberwolves were eliminated in the Western Conference Finals, and Anthony Edwards will have to keep waiting for his first NBA championship—something LeBron James and Stephen Curry also experienced earlier in their careers.

On Wednesday, the Oklahoma City Thunder ended the Minnesota Timberwolves’ title hopes with a dominant 124-89 win in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals. It marked another setback for Anthony Edwards, who is still chasing his first NBA ring—a scenario familiar to past superstars like Stephen Curry and LeBron James.

The Ant-Man has now played five seasons in the NBA, reaching the playoffs in each of the last four. In his first two postseason appearances, the Timberwolves were knocked out early in the first round. But as the shooting guard’s role grew, so did the team’s success.

He played a key role in helping Minnesota reach the Conference Finals—first against the Dallas Mavericks in 2024, and now against the Thunder in 2025. But in both cases, the Timberwolves were defeated in five games.

At 23 years old, Edwards will have to wait for another shot at his first title. Still, this situation is far from unique among NBA legends. Neither LeBron James nor Stephen Curry had won an NBA championship by the time they were Anthony’s age. Both endured long journeys—and tough losses—before finally reaching the top.

How old was LeBron James when he won his first NBA title?

In his first stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers, LeBron James came close to winning a title on two occasions. In 2007, he led the Ohio franchise to its first NBA Finals, where they were swept by the San Antonio Spurs. Two years later, he reached the Conference Finals but lost in six games to the Orlando Magic.

To win his first championship, James had to leave for the Miami Heat, joining forces with stars like Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. Even then, it didn’t come easy. In his first year with the team, the forward failed to deliver a title, losing in the Finals to the Dallas Mavericks.

It wasn’t until 2012—at age 27—that LeBron finally captured his first NBA championship with the Heat. He followed that up with another title the next year, and added two more later with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016 and the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020.

How old was Stephen Curry when he won his first title with the Warriors?

While Curry’s path to a championship looked very different from LeBron’s, they share one key similarity: both had to wait until age 27 to win their first NBA title. Steph spent five seasons with the Golden State Warriors before earning his first ring in 2015.

That breakthrough unlocked a new era for Curry, who went on to play in five consecutive NBA Finals and win three titles, in 2015, 2017 and 2018. In 2022, he once again reached the sport’s highest peak, further cementing his place among the all-time greats—alongside LeBron James, of course.
